What are the requirements for renewing or extending an O visa in Thailand, and can an affidavit be obtained from a solicitor?

Hi Again, I have a few more queries, as follows:

Hubby has O visa, multiple entry. If he wants to get an extension or renewal, is it he that needs a Thai Bank Account with funds? Does it matter if it's in my, his wife's, name?

To get a signed affidavit, must he go to our embassy, or can he get it done here in Thailand by a solicitor?

Thank you in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The husband, holding a multiple-entry O visa, can renew or extend it without needing a Thai bank account with funds if the extension is based on being married to a visa holder. In cases where he must meet financial criteria (like being over 50), he would need to show either 800K baht in his own account or verify a monthly income of 65K baht with a notarized letter from the embassy. It is possible to use a joint bank account if it meets the documented requirements (balance of 1.6 million baht if using the joint account for a retirement extension). For obtaining a signed affidavit, he must go to the consulate for notarization; it cannot be done by a solicitor in Thailand.

If he is getting an extension of stay based on being married to someone on a long term visa (like you on your Non-O-A) he doesn't need to meet any financial requirements.. He'd be "piggy-backing" his yearly extension onto you.

Try few banks, It would be best if he had money in his account. Less complicated.

if he is getting an extension of stay based on him being over 50 he'd need to meet the financial criteria of 800K baht in the bank for 2 months prior to his application for an extension, or a notarized letter from your consulate stating he gets 65K baht in income.

For the income affidavit they ONLY accept a notarized letter from your consulate here in bangkok.

If he was going to get an extension of stay using banked money he would have to have it in an account in his name only OR sometimes at some immigration offices they let the account be a joint account as long as the balance is double the actual requirement (half being his). So if your immigration office allowed a joint account and he was getting an extension based on being over 50 (retirement) he'd need to show 1.6 million baht in the joint account to hit the 800K threshold.
