TLDR : Answer Summary
When entering Thailand with a tourist visa exemption, it is recommended to bring cash as proof of financial means. Immigration may ask for proof of funds, but it is advised that only cash (20,000 baht or equivalent) will be accepted, not bank statements, credit cards, or other forms of currency. Many travelers report not being asked for proof of funds, but carrying cash is still encouraged.

When I visited Thailand a few months ago, they never asked me about funds. Pretty much took photos and went through.

Lived in Thailand, owned business in Thailand, travelled in and out countless times, never exchanged one word with any Thai IO.

Not once in 15 years have I been asked for proof of funds. Anyway, its slot better to bring a lump of cash with you to exchange in thailand as you'll get alot better exchange rate than your departing country

I have come to Thailand many times and never been asked to have proof of funds. Although I always carry cash for my stay

They will only ask for proof of funds from a US citizen if you appear to be destitute.

No. It must be in cash. Nothing else is acceptable and should they ask there is no access to cash machines at the point of arrival so you should travel with the cash. Saying that if this is your first time coming to Thailand it would be unusual to be asked

IF immigration asks (very rare) for proof of funds, the only thing they will accept is cash. They will not accept bank statements, an app on your phone, credit or debit cards, or anything else.

The law specifically states that it must be 20,000 baht or equivalent major currency in cash only.

they didn't ask me, and I didn't see anyone else asking. But I came prepped. I had 3x the req amount in a travel ziploc bag. The immigration officer just said, oh, I see you've been on the internet
