What are the requirements for my Canadian-born daughters to move to Thailand with me when I retire?

Here's a different look at things. My ex is Thai and we have 2 girls both born in Canada. When I retire to Siam will it be difficult for them to come live with me if they want? They will be 22 and 21 and I hope by then they will be off having their own lives. But what they choose to follow dear old dad to Thailand. God forbid.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual is considering the implications of retiring in Thailand and the possibility of his Canadian-born daughters moving there with him. Since their mother is Thai, the daughters are eligible for Thai citizenship and can apply for Thai passports. The process may require some documentation, such as their birth certificates and, potentially, their mother's Thai ID. Although they are over the age limit for sponsoring a parent for a long-term visa, they can independently apply for their citizenship and passports.

and on that note I believe the O/P has a good idea of what his kids need to do IF they want to get their thai passports ;)

We are done.

I am in no rush and in the end it's up to my daughters if they will apply for their Thai passports and I.d.

As most have pointed out they are eligible for Thai citizenship, but it can be a lengthy process, I am currently helping one of my staff who was born here and had a Thai ID card and passport, he was adopted and moved to Canada when he was 2, even with a lawyer and all the documents it is now pushing into a 3rd month and this is only to update his ID card and passport

, I have been party to helping thais re-acquire their thai citizenship when they were adopted out at a young age. It can take a good 6 to 8 months depending on how fast you can get the orphanage, the local amphur, and the other relevant agencies to get their documentation in order.

Umm, if they were adopted out at 2 years of age they wouldn't have a thai i/d card OR a thai passport. :/ You can't get them that young (maybe the passport but definitely NOT a thai i/d).

Still good luck (y)

okay that's TOTALLY different than two kids with a thai mother born abroad. They are already THAI citizens by birth. They just don't have their thai passports yet.

Surely they can get a Thai passport and Thai ID.

And having that, they can sponsor your long term stay in Thailand too

Sigh!!!!

The policy runs like a Thai girlfriend.

When you cannot prove yourself financially. You are not welcomed anymore.

Umm, no
@T**
, they can't sponsor him to stay long term in thailand. :/ He'd meet the qualifications to get a long term visa or extension on his own. His kids are too old for him to use them as a "support children" extension.

They can get a Thai passport. No problem

That was what I thought. THAI consulate and mom's blessings and Thai passport and birth certificates and reams of paper work. Egad this means I will have to talk to the ex. The horror.

The kids are of age where the mother's consent isn't required for them to get thai passports.

They'd probably only need their birth certificates & their mother's thai i/d.

Contact the thai consulate that serves the area where you live in Canada and see what's what.

Wouldn't he have to legitimize them through the courts here?

Thailand. Tod corrected me though.

nope, they are Thai by birth because their mother was a thai national.

You're confusing him getting a long term extension based on having half thai kids out of wedlock. He couldn't do that anyway because the kids are already over 20 and that's the cut off to get an extension to support kids here.

Where is here?
Tod *********
No matter where a thai is born if one parent is thai so are the kidz.
Robert *******
They are Thai Nationals, just look at the website of the Thai Embassy in Canada for the procedure to apply for a Thai Passport.
Tod *********
They are thai because their mother is thai. They should get their thai passports BEFORE they wing their way here from the thai consulate in Canada.
