Our daughter in law is Thai and has been living in the UK now for a while with our son. They were married in thailand and have a 2 year old daughter who has both thai and uk cutizenship...if they go back to thailand to live one day, would be easy for them, but more difficult for us as grandparents, to go with them?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the challenges grandparents may face in moving to Thailand if their child and Thai daughter-in-law decide to relocate there with their child. Key options mentioned for grandparents include applying for a Retirement Visa, which requires specific financial conditions, and the STV, which allows for temporary stays. There are also mentions of changing from a visa exemption to a Non-O Visa for longer stays. It's advised to consult with embassies for detailed and accurate visa information.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
  • Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
  • For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
  • Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.

If your want to stay in Thailand For a long time you can come in on a visa exemption and change to a non-o visa which can be extended for a year based on retirement there are financial requirements of 800 k baht in the bank for two months before and three months after then the balance can't drop below 400k you can also bring into your thai bank 65,000 a month for twelve months,it must show it was a foreign transaction and this will satisfy immigration for future extensions

Stop stop stop people with half information that not good please ignore above comment where as they are not wrong to a degree there is far more information needed & more conditions please do your research touch out to embassies & take everything with a pinch of salt

The STV is also an option if you want to spend some time in your own country and have accomadation sorted with son or nearby for the duration. 270 days

Yes.. I'm a grandmother many years on Samui. Loved helping raise my grandson here. Retirement Visa.. main requirement.. stated funds in Thai bank 2 months prior to applying for Visa. All documents carefully collected and ready. Your son or a visa service can help you with forms. See online requirements. Your income/ savings outside of Thailand does not count.

don’t use a visa service unless can’t understand requirements or not meet requirements

You only need the funds in a Thai bank for 2 months prior to applying for an extention of stay NOT for the visa. A non imm OA visa would give the OP a year in Thailand before needing an extention of stay.
