What are the requirements for extending a Thailand Pass in Chiang Mai and Phuket?

Hello community !

So, I apologize as I imagine the same questions come again and over again. I did read the super helpful Benjamin FAQ but I still want to be sure that, for my specific situation, I will do things well.

I have arrived on the 25th (Nov) in BKK (From Belgium), and my gf on the 24th (nov), from the Philippines. Both with simple Thailand Passes with a limit of 1 month.

We are now in Chiang Mai, and we will do the extension(s) from here.

- Regarding the 1 month extension that, as I understand, Thailand Pass ''owners'' can apply for, what are the requirements to do the extension in the Chiang Mai Office ? I am not 100 % sure I found any good source answering that. And it seems Thai Immigration has different rules from one to another city.

And knowing our dates of arrival, when would it be good to do the demand ? No difference between her and me because of our different nationalities right ?

- Regarding the 2 month extension because of Covid-19, we will certainly wish to also apply for it. We will be 99% in Phuket then, as we plan to leave Chiang Mai around the 27/28th Dec.

Benjamin FAQ is so clear so I guess I do not have much questions but is the Phuket Immigration ''easy'' on acceptance in general ?

My main reason to ask for the Covid-19 special extension here will be that we can't be together (me and my gf) because of Covid-19 making it impossible to stay in Philippines (the country is basically closed). Would that be acceptable ? I will also have proof of sufficient funds etc. if necessary but.. is this a good or bad thing to say ? I see there are 2 Thai Immigration's in Phuket, any of them is more recommendable ?

Anything else I should be thinking about ?

Thank you in advance !

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking clarity on extending their stay in Thailand after arriving on Thailand Pass. They inquire about the specific requirements for a 1-month extension in Chiang Mai, how nationality affects this process, and whether they can apply for a 2-month Covid-19 extension while in Phuket. Comments suggest applying for the 30-day extension first before considering the Covid extension. They should also approach the Phuket Immigration Office over the Patong branch for the Covid extension, and it’s advised to keep requests straightforward during the application process.

And when you go to ask for the Covid extension, do not give any song and dance story, request the extension, say nothing, answer any questions in a short short short sentence.

Recommend you use the Phuket Immigration branch (not Patong branch) if you are applying for the 60-day covid. When I did, i spoke with applicants who tried the get the Covid extension at Patong, but were told to go to the Phuket branch. Good luck!

okay, you both showed up NOT on simple thai pass anything, You showed up without visas in your passport and were stamped in for 30 days on what's called a visa exempt entry.

You can apply for a 30 day extension from that entry stamp when you have 45 days or less left on your current stamp <- which means you can go any time and apply for it. It's 1900baht and you apply at the immigration office out by the airport in Chiang Mai.

As far as the covid extension, I'd say you're getting the cart before the horse a bit, how about you get the 30 day regular extensions FIRST and then when you move to Phuket go to that immigration office and ask about the covid extensions?

The program allowing them runs until the 25th of January. So as long as you apply for it before then you should be okay.
