Retirement visa (from an O visa) with multi-re enter must be canceled before you leave the country if you wish to change to Non B. Leave on the day of cancelation. There is no legal way to do otherwise according to Thai immigration!!!

TLDR : Answer Summary
To switch from a Retirement (O) visa to a Non-B visa in Thailand, you must cancel your Retirement visa before leaving the country. This cancellation must occur on the day you intend to leave, as no legal alternatives are allowed according to Thai immigration regulations. Some individuals have noted successes in negotiating with immigration officials at checkpoints, but it is generally advised to follow the cancellation process to maintain legal visa status during the transition.

Funny, The Immigration One Stop Service Center for BOI and IEAT companies at Cham Churi Square doesn't even issue retirement extensions :O

You shouldn't have any problem going to Chaengwattana, canceling your extension BUYING an extension denied 7 day stamp to get out of thailand and exiting the country during that week.

How about you say what immigration office told you this information Tim?

With currently valid Reentry Permits - I suppose they could be cancelled - leaving the Non O intact. Then no rush to leave Thailand as you would still be on a valid visa status

Good point, just go to the immigration office and cancel your re-entry permit, then leave when you want (y)

I did this exact thing last year under the same status - except no reentry permit. I crossed over to Savannakhet - passing through Thai immigration they didn't want me to leave knowing it would cancel my Non O Extension of Stay. I had my Visa Agent talk to the Thai Immigration Suppervisor at bridge on the phone. They then let me pass canceling my Non O Extension. At that moment I had no Thai Visa status.
