How difficult is it to apply for Non-O visa while in Thailand. I gather you can only open bank account with this visa, in order to deposit 800000tbht for retirement visa?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Applying for a Non-O visa in Thailand can be quite challenging, especially due to the requirement of having a Thai bank account with at least 800,000 THB deposited at the time of application. Many expats suggest that it is easier to apply for this visa from their home country or a nearby location if they do not yet have a Thai bank account, as most banks require proper visa status to open an account. Additionally, there is an option to show proof of a pension, but this should be verified with the local immigration office. Overall, a Non-O visa, required for a retirement visa, is difficult to obtain in Thailand without fulfilling specific banking requirements.

Without a Thai bank account its impossible, that's why you need to get a non 0 90 day visa before you arrive that will allow you to open a bank account so you can get the retirement visa, no 90 day non O ,no bank account, no retirement visa, its that simple

There is also the option of providing certified proof of a pension of at least 65,000 baht per month. However, you must check with the relevant immigration office beforehand to see if this option is still accepted.

I cannot get a bank account while here. I went to 5 banks and they all said the same thing—“you need the proper visa to get an account” (not a visitor visa). So I need to leave Bangkok in a few days to see if I can get a non-O from home

You can't apply for a 90 day Non-O visa based on age inside Thailand unless you have the required funds in a Thai bank account. If you don't have a Thai bank account the simplest thing to do is to apply for the visa in a nearby country using funds in your home bank, return to Thailand and open a bank account and deposit the money required for a 12 month extension of stay application

You can obtain a non-O visa in Thailand, but you must already have a Thai Bank account as you must have 800k in the account the day you apply.

You'll struggle without a Thai bank account. It's best to apply at home before leaving or in a nearby country if you don’t want to spend money for an agency.

it's it getting harder for agents to open a bank account for you on a non exempt or tourist visa?

Yes, not all agents can assist with this anymore and you also have to do it in connection with a larger package where you open an account, apply for Non O and an extension of stay.

The Non Imm O is the 'retirement visa'. You'll most likely need an agent if you don't already have a Thai bank account

A non-O visa is not only for retirement.

Not only for retirement but still classified as one of the four retirement visas in the e-visa portal.
