I will register to 9 months culinary course in Bangkok and get a DTV. My questions are;

# My course is 9 months and Dtv is for only 180 days in a year. Some say I can extend it paying 1900 for extra 6 months ( is that true? )

# Let's say I finished the course and left Thailand after 10 months, If I want to come back again what should I do ? Register to a new course but not new visa ? Coz I think visa is good for 5 years ?

Thanks in advance for your replies 🙏
Answer summary
The DTV visa provides 180 days per entry and is linked to a specific course duration. While some believe an extension for an additional 180 days is possible for a fee (around 1900 Baht), it is often challenging and not guaranteed. Most individuals opt to leave Thailand and return to obtain a new entry stamp rather than extend. If you finish your course and leave, to return to Thailand you typically must register for a new course, as immigration may require proof of the visa's purpose upon re-entry.

DTV gives 180 days per entry, not per year

So Do I have an option of extending for another 180 paying 1900 baht or I will have to go outside if Thailand and come back ?

most people choose to take a short trip for a day or two. Theoretically every entry can be extended once for a further 180 days inside Thailand but it's almost like applying all over again so nearly everyone chooses to leave and return

that's debatable, you already have the visa BUT immigration can also ask to verify you are fulfilling the purpose of the visa on entry

Thank you very much for your answer. How about if you got the DTV for registering a culinary course and your course has finished, you left Thailand and want to come back again, do you need to register to another course?

Extensions are very difficult for DTV so almost everyone border bounces for a new 180 day stamp

I just enrolled DTV for 9 months starting Sept-May 2027 but the enrollment credits remains valid until May 2028. When I came back Aug 25th the immigration officer just asked my visa and no questions asked.

Are you in your home country for the application ?

Couple of new rules come into play for DTV applicants starting September 1 2026

DTV is not for 180 days a year
