I have searched the internet and cannot find an answer, hoping someone can help. We are planning a 3 (possibly 6) month stay in Chiang Mai at the end of the year. I have found that we will need a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa that grants us a 60 day stay with the possibility for a 30 day extension. My question is, if we buy a round trip ticket from the US that has us leaving on day 90, will we have a problem with immigration? Or do we need some sort of flight booked out of Thailand before day 60?
Also, we are traveling with our two small children (4 & 1), do they need visas as well?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is planning a stay of 3 to 6 months in Chiang Mai and is questioning whether they need to book a flight out of Thailand before the 60 days allowed by their Multiple Entry Tourist Visa. The comments suggest that they should not have any issues with immigration if they have a round trip ticket, although it's important to file a TM 30 form shortly after arrival. Regarding their children, while there is some uncertainty, it appears that children under 15 do not strictly need a visa but will receive a visa exemption; they could potentially be stamped in for 30 days and may be allowed to leave without penalties for overstaying.
You should not have a problem. If your destination is Chiang Mai you should file a TM 30 at immigration within a couple of days after arriving or you will likely receive a Baht 1600 fine when you go to Chiang Mai immigration for your 30 day extension
I, dont see myself as confused in any way Misinformed possibly even probably and not for the first time either but not confused as I would need to know all the facts in the first place surely.
You'll be fine with a ME Tourist visa. Your kids should have visas too, although if they don't they'll still be stamped in for 30 days, visa exempt, and then stamped as overstaying when they leave. But there is no fine or ban for kids who overstay.
