Hello guys,

I am currently on a 1 year extension of stay of a NON O visa based on having a Thai child. Is it possible to change the purpose of this NON O to Thai wife and further extend it for another year without having to leave the country?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, it is possible to change the purpose of your NON O visa extension from based on having a Thai child to being married to a Thai national. You will need to meet the financial requirements of 400,000 THB seasoned for two months, provide proof of marriage, and have your spouse with you during the extension process. Each immigration office may have its own specific rules, so it's best to confirm with your local office.

I re-read the OP's question. The OP is asking about going from a one year extension of stay based on raising half-Thai child to a one year extension of stay based on marriage. The answer to this question is:

Yes, he can. He needs 400K THB seasoned for 2 months, the wife next to him, and proof of marriage.

The question that was *NOT* asked was

"Do I need to bring my child when I get an extension of stay".

The answer is, yes, the spouse or child must be present when an extension of stay based on marriage or an extension of stay based on raising half-Thai child is acquired, respectfully.

Each immigration office has their own rules, and I'm shutting down comments to prevent a "at my immigration office, we..." post from happening.

It is possible to go from a one year extension of stay based on raising half-Thai child to a one year extension of stay based on marriage to a Thai national. But my question is why?

The financial requirements for a half-Thai child is having 400K THB in a Thai bank account, no seasoning requirements. The financial requirements for marriage to a Thai national is 400K THB in a Thai bank account, seasoned for two months.

Thanks for your prompt reply.

Yes, but the financial requirements are not the issue here.

It’s rather that my child doesn’t live with me anymore which is a K.O. for another extension of stay at least if one applies without bribing the local immigration officers.

And as I have high moral standards and couldn’t live with myself, I would prefer to avoid such a bribery...

That makes sense 🙂 Yes, you can get an extension of stay based on marriage if you had an extension of stay based on raising half-Thai children without any problems. You'd use the same documents, except the wife will be next to you, you'd submit the marriage certificate, and you'd submit proof the money was seasoned for two months.
