Hi all,

I am looking for some advice on the best way to extend a 15 day VOA. My partner was planning to spend 30 days in Thailand without realising she is only allowed a 15 day visa on arrival so now we are considering potential ways to get another 15 days. Can anyone share thoughts if they have experience please

- Apply for an evisa while in Thailand (is this allowed? how would it be activated?)

- Fly internationally and return the next day to get another 15 day VOA (are multiple 15 VOA allowed back to back?)

- Go to the immigration office and ask for an extension

Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
The options for extending a 15-day Visa on Arrival (VOA) in Thailand are limited. Key points include: 1. Applying for an eVisa while in Thailand is not permitted; eVisas must be applied for from outside Thailand. 2. Re-entering Thailand after leaving for another country can grant an additional 15-day VOA, but this may be subject to scrutiny by immigration officials. 3. VOAs typically cannot be extended; however, if you go to an immigration office, you may receive a temporary extension stamp, pushing your departure date by 7 days, but this is not guaranteed to be accepted.

You need to leave and re-enter the country.

VOAs are not extendable. However if you have a flight out of Thailand within the next 7 days some offices will allow a you to apply for an extension, which would be denied, but you’d get a 7 days stamp.

You can fly out and come back in for a new VOA. You’ll probably get away with one time, possibly more, but anymore and you’d be chancing getting denied entry.

Are you already in Thailand? It seems that way so I'll reply based on that.

You cannot apply for an evisa while in Thailand. You cannot get ANY tourist visa in Thailand. And evisa is only available in certain countries and you have to physically be in those countries to use it. Also you can only activate a visa when you enter the country.

You might be able to leave Thailand and re-enter for another VOA entry, but the entry may also be scrutinized for returning so quickly. There's no way to know as each immigration officer has discretion.

VOA does not qualify for any extension. If you apply for one, the immigration office will either refuse to accept the application, or if they do accept it along with the 1900b fee, they will then give a 7 day "application rejected, must leave Thailand" stamp that starts that day.
