Interesting they say ILR. I have friends in UK on 5 year Skilled Worker visas. They can apply for USA and Schengen visas in London but not DTV?

I can't speak to that, but I think the point of permanent residency isn't permanent residency per se, it's just that the UK embassy is equipped to deal with UK residents, and might even call them in for an interview. I read it as “permanent residency status” — not that you actually have to be exercising your right to permanent residency. So proof could include something as basic as a UK passport.

Ultimately, they just want to know which country is responsible for you.

From that notice though they couldn't apply for a DTV there on a 5 year visa. Previously even with a British passport they wanted proof you were still resident there. Utility bill, bank statement with UK address. Singapore allows applications on a 1 year visa and no need for PR. It seems to be embassy specific.

Yeah. When I first moved to Singapore PR was pretty easy to get in our industry - Big Pharma. A few years later very difficult. I know one of the 2 above applied and did not get it.

Yeah, that was my point, that permanent residency sounds scary but isn't really. Hopefully it doesn't create any problems for people.

The bank statement does not prove rewid3ncy but Thai Embassy UK was fine with it.

I mean a bank statement doesn’t prove residency, either. I think we need to revert back to the age-old adage of, “Where do you pay your taxes?”

In their eyes though, it’s, “Where do we send you back to if we have to?”

Time will tell, but I don't think the new restrictions are that big of a deal.
