Did Vietnam really just update their policies on travel? Can anyone confirm this?

Not too clever to think about traveling anywhere
on this planet at the moment.
I do fully understand that after more than 2 years of Covid, not seeing family or friends and wanting to relax on a sun baked tropical beach is very tempting.
Sadly very sadly Putin invaded a sovereign country in the centre of Europe.
This as we know, apart from all the carnage and suffering on the ground
has elevated the risk level
for all travelers to maybe it’s highest in years.
Of course everyone has their own personal reasons to travel, but personally I will avoid air travel and airports for some time to come.
I must leave the country by the 24th or overstay. This isn't about me needing to travel but being able to come back to the country and come back in in the current visa and get an extension

Before there is an official statement from the vietnamese government no vietnamese embassy anywhere in the world will be able to grant visas for individual tourists.
Wait for the official announcement or choose another country.
There are now more than enough countries open for individual tourists travelling from Thailand.

Quick Google search will tell you which countries are open...
Always important to differentiate between official announcement and proposals.
We all know that the vietnamese government has proposed to open the country for individual tourists tomorrow. But there are also hundreds of posts telling you that the government still hasn't announced any details how this is going to happen.
Thank you for confirming for us that this is the reality just now.
Because if they are DECIDING on the 15th, that doesn't mean you can enter on the 15th. So technically, they should have said "starting to issue visas on the 15th.".

The person I spoke to didn't really make it clear how I can do that. Being that I wanted to fly out by March 24th and may be tough to actually get one.
A company that I do business with in the states has a manufacturing facility in Vietnam I wanted to go visit it
I am American. You can still get in through a business Visa.

Why are you surprised? You make and dictate the policies for the Vietnamese government? People here have told and advised you to make other plans, you chose not to listen nor heed.
the person I spoke to at the Vietnamese embassy thought that it was also going to open up today. As I was waiting they put this up. Even they were surprised to know that they didn't happen. He thought it was a sure thing too. He did tell me to check within the next couple of days because it might be updated. This is directly from someone at the Vietnamese embassy.
