Hi guys,

What’s peoples thoughts on the DTV stopping applicants if there’s too many being processed?

Should I just do a visa run now and do DTV in 3 months or would you do one now. My visa expires 27th and a lot of public holidays etc and not a great time for us to travel with a baby for a long processing time.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion centers around concerns about the DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) application process in Thailand, especially given reports of potential processing bottlenecks and changes to the visa program. Users suggest weighing the option of a visa run before upcoming holidays against applying for the DTV. Insights indicate a belief that the DTV is popular and unlikely to be scrapped, despite concerns over fraudulent applications. Practically, alternatives such as traveling to Taipei for a quicker visa process are also discussed.

They discontinue visas for being unpopular. Thailand is doing everything it can to encourage visitors, there must have been a half dozen policy changes in the last year or two towards that goal. Expanding visa exempt country list, lengthening of visa exempt stay duration, remove limitations on visa exempt entries by land, increase VOA stay limits, add countries to VOA list, introduce a dirt cheap no brainer 5 year DTV, that almost anyone and his dog can qualify for, and if you can't qualify for it financially mommy can sponsor you. It's manna from heaven to one of the world's top destinations. They didn't require background checks, health insurance, medical fitness, the MFA has literally flung the doors open.

You have the option to go to Taipei before the 27th as they accept walk-ins up to that date and their processing time is short. You may need some days though, if you are 1 main applicant and wish to add spouse and child to the main applicants DTV.

hi, is the walk in process faster than an e-visa in Vietnam?

there are no walk in process in Vietnam anymore. Not in any of the neighbouring countries (Laos switch to only e-visa around new year, but they've been for scheduled appointments only and the slots have been fully booked for weeks now). However Vietnam process e-visa applications pretty fast compared to many other countries (around 5 working days if the documentation is complete).

There is no risk of it going away at this point

The entire globe literally is trying to loosen visa restrictions and entice people, moreover modern remote workers, the likes of Spain are doing it, but in the east its a race to gain tourism after the pandemic, look favorably upon this, it's not going away, maybe some don't like the new norm, but it's here and Thailand are embracing it, hopefully its respected.

No chance. It's the most successful visa in Thai history. It's bringing in so much foreign money

It’s likely the entire program will be changed due to the requirements being too low and the amount of fraudulent applications - there have already been complaints that people are cancelling retirement, marriage and Thailand elite visas in order to apply for a DTV instead

Fraudulent applications? 😂. Many retirees want to get off the agent bandwagon and get a legitimate visa. You want to talk about fraud, go look at the agents who have been bribing government officials for years. Hopefully the DTV will put an end to that! ✅

retirees usually don't have or won't keep money in the bank and never want to deal with immagration forms not their thing. Do the agents will always exist. They are even doing the DTV or arranging paperwork for the lazy ones. Most agents have family inside immagration never stop them same with the banks they say no so you will go through an agent. Show me the money 🤣🤣🤣

I don't see how changing from a retirement, marriage or elite visa to a DTV could be fraudulent, if that's what you imply. The DTV has its own requirements, and anybody meeting them can apply, regardless of being retired or married to a Thai national.

right. Having a dentist appointment or 2 doesn’t really warrant a 5 year visa, does it?

I think we’ll see it becoming harder to get and the requirements will be tweaked. Even now I’m sure it’s being abused - people getting one and working here etc, it’s the golden ticket for people who did the same on tourist visas.

But that's how this visa works. Once granted it's five years. The whole point was to get people into the country adding to the economy. Sure there will be a few Cheap Charlies who will live off toasted sandwiches at 7-11 with 20 baht coffee waiting patiently for happy hour to begin, but they're in the minority. As DTV holders have got longstay entitlement they are renting condos which have been empty since covid, driving the economy upwards. This visa is here to stay

@Jon *********
it's up to the Thai authorities to decide whether a dentist appointment grants a 5 years or not. If the authorities approve the visa, the it's lawful.
Jon **********
@Elías *******
yup. It’s lawful. Get it while you can. All I’m saying is it’s likely to get harder.

No chance. It's a huge success. Thailand is loving it!

changes coming in 2025 - they didn’t intend for this visa to cannibal marriage and retirement visas etc the requirements are going to be increased

I doubt it! The number of switches from non-O are negligible. It's the newcomers who are streaming into the country. If a retiree or married to a Thai can qualify for the DTV why shouldn't they be able to apply? If immigration is THAT concerned perhaps they'll take a long hard look at the ridiculous criteria of the non-O and scrap a lot of fhd stupid requirements. I've already switched and I'm laughing. Nothing will change. It's a huge success!

agree mate the people are arriving in a massive scale with that comes money into the economy exactly how Thai government planned. Why would they change anything this is just the start. You think the government isn't aware of the intended outcome. What the Thai government wants is not aligned to Farang's closed mind. Why should they make it more difficult it defeats the purpose.Given it's success they may make it even easier no 90 day reporting and no requirment to leave after the initial 180 day extension
