Does anybody have a total cost (actual or estimated) of all the extra expenses we need to pay for specifically due to the new Covid19 requirements?

These extra costs include:

1. Fit to Fly doctor exam and health certificate

2. Covid19 test

3. Health insurance for min $100,000 usd coverage

4. Mandatory 14-day quarantine at government approved ASQ hotel or facility

TLDR : Answer Summary
The estimated overall costs for traveling to Thailand under the new Covid-19 requirements include expenses for a Fit to Fly medical certificate, Covid-19 testing, mandatory health insurance, and a 14-day quarantine at an Alternative State Quarantine (ASQ) hotel. Costs vary significantly based on personal circumstances and the chosen hotel. Estimates for these expenses fluctuate between 80,000 to 150,000 THB, depending on factors like age, insurance provider, and hotel selection.

Bear in mind that, certainly from the UK, you need to send the Covid result and fit to fly in with your application. Now, since these have a 72 hour shelf life and embassy staff are not exactly rushing the letters out to people this will mean adding in the cost of a second Covid test and fit to fly certificate. My surgery charges £25 for the certificate if the doctor doesn't see the need to examine you and you already have the Covid result. If you don't already have the Covid result a medical will be £50. A rough rundown of costs I did last week, based on getting a place in the 35,000 baht quarantine hotels came out at just shy of 120,000 baht plus flights.
Barry *******
@Kevin ****
think you’ll find covid test is not required to apply now but required before CoE is issued.
Kevin *****
@Barry ******
yes, you need the test to get the CoE from the embassy, so by the time you have sent your paperwork in and got the CoE back from the embassy there is no guarantee you'll still be within the 72 hours required by the airlines/immigration to get you into the kingdom.
Barry *******
@Kevin ****
you do not need the test to apply for CoE.
Kevin *****
@Barry ******
not apply but to get it issued you do:

While Thailand still puts in place travel restriction, work permit holders who wish to return to Thailand can apply for the Certificate of Entry. The decision will be made in Bangkok by a committee comprising relevant authorities and this process takes time.

Required documents, which must be submitted by email to
*************************
:

Your passport copy

A copy of your Thai visa (if already expired, you have to apply for a new one)

A copy of your work permit (even if it is already expired, which you have to extend in Thailand), or a copy of letter of permission to work in Thailand from a Thai government agency

A copy of letter from your employer (or yourself if you own a company) that you need to return to work in Thailand

Declaration form, duly completed and signed

A copy of your health insurance policy with coverage including COVID-related treatment in Thailand in the amount no less than 100,000 USD (or a company letter certifying that they will pay for your medical expenses including COVID-19)

All non-Thai passengers will be subject to a 14-day quarantine at their own expenses at one of the facilities for Alternative State Quarantine (ASQ) that have been approved by the Thai authorities. The reservation can be made later and need not be submitted at this stage.

"Once approved, you will be duly notified. Then, you would need to (1) book a flight, (2) book an ASQ hotel, and (3) prepare a fit to fly health certificate within 72 hours before departure that you are free from COVID-like symptoms, and send a copy to the Embassy to issue a certificate of entry to Thailand."

So you can apply without it but to get the certificate you need the Covid test result and fit to fly. Which means you are at the whim of the embassy dependant on how long their turnaround time (with so many expats trying to get back to their families and teachers trying to get back to their schools) is going to be. So it is wise to budget for a second test because if the CoE takes more than 60 hours turnaround you then have to face immigration officers on arrival in the kingdom with a Covid and fit to fly over the 72 hour limit because most of the flights from London are currently around 34 hours.

The UK did away with the quarantine for Thai national entering the UK

Think Thailand will do the same for UK citizen wanting to enter Thailand ?

I estimated about 150,000 too. But which insurance did you get for 850 pounds?! (33k thb) All of the ones I’m looking at are around 50-60,000 thb (full medical with Covid coverage)

Look the best thing to do is go home. And plead with the Australian government to make things as difficult for Thais in Australia.
Rick *******
I am not an Australian citizen, but contacting your home government never hurts. I believe that the pressure from other countries helped put spouses of Thai nationals on their radar. We are now on the list of individuals who can apply for entry into Thailand but still too many hoops. I am waiting for next year when there will hopefully be a vaccine. Much of the current restrictions should change by then.
Barry *******
It's not the Thai peoples fault!

Just depends , if no rich go to Thailand they will have to beg the poor ordinary tourists to return .

Dream on Thailand .
Jennifer ****
I priced it out to be about approx 110,000 (+ flight cost) for my partner trying to return.

1. Fit to Fly doctor exam and health certificate - free doc visit

2. Covid19 test - 2500-5000

3. Health insurance for min $100,000 usd coverage - 58,000/year approx

4. Mandatory 14-day quarantine at government approved ASQ hotel or facility - 45,000 +- depending on availability.

+ cost of flight to return

I’m budgeting 150,000+ for everything. We are undecided.

But probably will wait it out and spend that money on something/somewhere more enjoyable for now.
Chris *****

@Jennifer ***
I’m ok with everything EXCEPT that 45,000+ ASQ hotel. Even the health insurance isn’t that bad because you can find cheaper if you don’t need a full year, or you can cancel later and get prorated refund.
Jennifer ****
@ChrisCho ***********
I don’t really mind the insurance either. It’s good to have.

In Canada they allow us to quarantine at our own homes. Here in Thailand we actually have a full empty hotel to quarantine in, but have to stay in their specific hotels instead.

Unfortunately the first batches of people back in couldn’t follow the rules so now it’s super strict.

I wish they would let people quarantine at home. Especially if they can prove they have the personal space. (I don’t really find the quarantine hotels to be that expensive for what they are providing... but it adds up with everything else)

Cost is one of the reasons that I am waiting to go back to Thailand. I have two houses in Udon that I could stay at for the quarantine. My question is how long this will be a requirement along with testing if there is a viable vaccine available?
Patrick ********
@Rick ******
If your a citizen of one of the Bubble Countries then I don’t believe that you have to do quarantine. I believe those 3 countries are Japan, Korea and certain city’s in China. According to various reports from multiple sources these 3 countries are Corvid free.
Rick *******
@Patrick *******
, no such thing as Covid free these days. It just depends on who is doing testing and who is not.
Patrick ********
@Rick ******
agreed. This is just what the Thai media has been reporting on the “Bubble Countries” regarding opening of the tourism market has been stating. Along with the “High End Tourist” that will be able to make up the money lost in the tourism market quickly. China is included on that list 🤔
Rick *******
That is all a pipe dream. It will be reported that the countries Thailand wants to come visit have little or no Covid cases and all others they don't want have high case rates and are a danger to Thailand. All BS.
Chris *****

@Rick ******
it’s my understanding that it’s a mandatory requirement to stay at the government ASQ hotel. There is no option to stay with family, or at your own house, condo, or other option.
Rick *******
Just another reason not to go back anytime soon. It appears to me that the government is trying to make a lot of money during an unfortunate time. I am looking at Vietnam and Malaysia for a family visit, otherwise it will be a long time before I see my Thai family again.

It’s best to wait and see a while before traveling.

I’m also in a similar situation. The high end tourist from Bubble countries of Korea, Japan and certain city’s in China seems to be the focus of the tourism at this time.

With quarantine costs and dodgy Corvid insurance companies it just doesn’t seem worth it for the time being.

There are lots of people regionally that are for sure having health problems because of the pandemic can’t continue their medical treatment in Thailand some have been going for years.

As far as the airlines are concerned it’s best to try and get ones money back because the airlines might not be in business tomorrow. 🤷‍♂️

Mine is about 100,000 baht.

Health insurance for 52 year old = 45,000

ASQ hotel at IBIS hotel= 50,000

Doctor visit, Health certificate, and Covid19 test = 5,000

Total = 100,000 baht

Thais will not accept any old insurance. Has to be from a list of approved insurers from what I've heard.
Kevin *****
Just read a post saying that Chang Mai immigration were refusing overseas insurance policy with a $2,000,000 cover. Again, this can all boil down to which office and which officer you see. It was mentioned that soneone in BKK had sent a letter out saying foreign policies were okay if they had the $100,000 inpatient and 40,000 baht outpatient cover but apparently not all immigration points and officers are accepting that.
Barry *******
ASQ = THB 45k, fit to fly medical plus COVID test = £330, Health insurance covering COVID = US$ 65 per month

Travel health insurance, I believe, is not anywhere in Thai immigration laws. Exercise more patience and they will get real. They are only trying to make money off of a bad situation. Cambodia too.
Nicky ******
@Michael *****
Yes, it is a mandatory requirement for any farangs entering the Kingdom, and it must cover at least $100,000 (Covid19 included in the policy).

"As for them only trying to make money out of a bad situation", who do you think should pay for your hospital bill if you get Covid19, or if indeed you have a bad accident of some sort, and require hospital admission, and/or surgery?

Maybe you think the Thai government owe you something, and should foot your bill!?

Anyone with an ounce of common sense would have some kind of health insurance policy when travelling to a foreign country on vacation. Even more so if one intends to live there.

Cheapest health insurance quote I got was from Awaran. Just under 18k baht. Looks like you have to buy the insurance before you make your application so if they don’t let you in you’re stuck with it
Brett *******
Pacific Cross Health have just released a policy tailored to satisfy this requirement. No idea of the price but probably worth a look.
Nicky ******
3. AXA Global Health Access (excluding the USA) cost me just over $1,600, and more than covers the required amount. Subject to age, etc.

4. Depends on which hotel you choose and/or what is available at the time.

Prices can be well over 100,000 THB.

It's a fair assumption that the cheapest options will go first. Probably taken by work permit holders, and some of the farangs who are married to Thai partners.

@Michael *******
. Good stuff! Get someone else to pay. I've been suggesting that to teachers, but the schools won't pay. By the time the teachers have paid air fares, insurance and quarantine, they'll be working three months for nothing! Cannot imagine what the attraction is to do that! Australia tried the self-quarantine and it failed miserably. Unless a country is prepared to establish a tough line it's not going to work.
