I renewed my one year non-O retirement visa last April, I plan to travel sometime in June. Are there any changes to travel overseas from bkk and back? Do I use the Thai pass for departure and arrival? Will I be required to have a health insurance with a non-O retirement one year visa issued in Bangkok? I only do the 90 day reporting on a yearly visa. Appreciate any assistance, clarifications for my peace of mind. Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks clarification on travel regulations regarding their one-year non-O retirement visa, including departure and arrival processes at Bangkok, the necessity of Thai Pass, and health insurance requirements. Comments indicate that the Thai Pass may only be needed for arrival and could be scrapped by June. It is suggested that while private health insurance is not required for the non-O visa itself, having coverage is advisable for reentry. Users emphasize that travel insurance might be necessary for the Thai Pass, and immigration regulations may require ongoing coverage for the duration of the visa.

Ben, you are confusing Health lnsurance required by OA Visa and Travel(covid) Insurance required for entry in to Thailand.

An O Extension does not require proof of Insurance but to get the Thai Pass you need travel insurance, normally for 1 month, to qualify for the Thai Pass.

Also need a reentry permit before you leave.

it's not about believing you it's about my experience. I didn't ask anybody, it's how I did it.

if you do not believe me ask immigration yourself. I left BKK two weeks ago and asked immigration at the airport. Immigration told me I would need Covid insurance when I return covering up to the date my O visa expires. If I only had a one month Covid policy then I would be stamped in only for one month. My wife just renewed her O visa and valid till April 2023 and was told she would need Covid insurance till April.

you believe what you like.

that is not correct. You need Covid insurance till your O visa expires. If you only have one month insurance immigration will only stamp you in till the date which your insurance expires

Correct. That’s why I specifically asked for a letter to say I was covered by my Thai medical insurance for all that was being requested. Ben needs the same or travel insurance to be able to return.

On the way out it will depend on where you are going as different countries & airlines have different policies , on the way back from 1st of June Tp is scrapped & all info just put onto your TM6 !

Only an ATK self test on arrival & no quarantine if fully vaxed

Insurance must cover the length of your stay

I thought the scrapping of the thai pass is still being discussed and is not official yet? They've also talked about replacing it with a vaccine passport.

your visa type has nothing to do with insurance to enter Thailand. That's an entry requirement due to Covid and required to apply for the Thailand Pass. You need 30 days of insurance to enter the country.

I’m not 100% sure about the no insurance for the non-O , but travel insurance for flying back in might be a good idea , just incase you catch the Rona in transit

flying to USA, I read somewhere that a non-O retirement visa issued in Thailand does not require health insurance which I'm now, no insurance. Question is what if when I travel is my concern? Thanks we'll see and learn from this.
Scott *******
I have private insurance in Thailand. I got a typed and signed letter from the insurance company informing authorities I was covered for over $10k and corona etc. I understand your concern. You want to make sure you can get back in 👍🏻

Thai Pass is just for arrival in Thailand. It is currently under discussion, that it may be scrapped in June.

talking about Thai pass insurance not about visa renewals . It should be insurance for length of visa or stay they won’t check or care it’s just to get the pass then forget it all

you need insurance for the Thai pass - $10k Covid cover. You can get away with only having this for a month from arrival date. You don't need insurance for a Non-O, that's only for a Non-OA

I saw and read this, just wondering because I just renewed my one year non-O retirement at muang thong they did not ask or required me to have or show health insurance, since I lived in Thailand going 9 yrs I never and was not required unless the covid changed it. Thanks for your concern appreciate it. Worse case I'll get it on my return on that online attachment.

I read somewhere if it's a Non-O retirement issued in Bangkok, need not require insurance, that's where I'm now since I moved to Thailand. I'm reaching out who knows better upon returning with a Non-O retirement. That way we both get familiar. Thanks

@Ben ********
I think you have to have insurance for the length of your stay. That is, you get stamped in, for the length of your insurance cover.
