Hello all, next month I will be renewing my Thai retirement visa (non-imm type O) for the 3rd time. Regarding the Thai Immigration Dept requirement for proof of 800k baht, previously I had my bank (Bangkok Bank) print a copy of my passbook, stamp and then sign the documents the morning of, so that I could then submit along with my other documents. Well, Bangkok Bank recently informed me they no longer sign and stamp such documents. I asked them to do anyway, willing to pay. Nope! They informed me there is some new understanding between the Immigration Department and themselves that such authentication is no longer necessary. I’m a bit skeptical and would appreciate any feedback on this matter. Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the current process for renewing their Thai retirement visa (Non-Immigrant Type O) and facing challenges with Bangkok Bank's new policy regarding the authentication of bank documents. Previously, the bank provided stamped and signed proof of funds; however, they have now stated that this is no longer necessary due to a new understanding with the Immigration Department. Responses from the community highlight that other banks still provide the required documentation, and specific requirements for immigration extensions include standardized bank letters, financial history, and sufficient fund maintenance.

Listen up people,

This isn't a "where can I bank other than BB" thread 😕

This isn't a "wise doesn't code international transfers anymore" thread.

This is a BB is not wanting to give the standard bank letter thread

You people need to stay on topic.

My immigration office require proof from my bank that the funds have never dropped below 400k during the mid period even one baht and not below 800k the first three months and the last two months but they are so very helpful thankyou so much sisaket immigration 👐

Just last week I got the 12 month statement and letter from Bangkok Bank Headquarters just like I have done in previous years….so no change.

@Tod ********
I had no problem getting the letter but found it useful to have copy of an old one so they know exactly what you want.

@Tom *****
yep that helps a LOT, all I'm saying is that people are reporting that some branches say they don't issue that letter anymore

Tom and I are talking about Bangkok Bank. But also Immigration as whatever the bank gives you Immigration needs to accept it. Otherwise it’s a waste of time.

@Terry ******
no there's where you're wrong, immigrations doesn't have to accept 'what ever the bank gives you', Immigrations TELLS you what you need and it's your job to get the bank to give you that documentation 🙁

@Tod ********
well this isn’t the first time I’ve been wrong. 🤣🤣

@Tom *****
same here. I had my passbook updated and latest bank statement. Chiang Mai Immigration accepted. But I do realize they tend to be the most lenient of the Immigration offices.

They also want the money in for 4 months before issuing a letter, or you sign a 'freeze' on the funds for a further 4 months.
Graham ******
@Lloyd *******
It has to be "frozen" for 3 months anyway to meet the conditions of granting the new extension
Lloyd ********
@Graham *****
Also that is post, I am talking about pre also.
Graham ******
@Lloyd *******
it's only post if it wasn't pre, not both
Lloyd ********
@Graham *****
But 3 is not 4, and if you have not had for 4 months prior, you sign to say for 4 months post. (Only BKK bank).

You are not renewing your reirement visa. When the visa expires, it cannot be renewed. I assume that you are applying for an extension of stay based on being over 50 years of age.

We have been getting more and more reports of this and there is no "understanding with immigrations" people have been turned away from getting their extensions for not having the "standard bank letter" (that's the one that is about 5 lines long, states your name, account number, passport number and the balance the date they wrote the letter).

You need to have the following to get a new year extension based on banked money method

- one year detail transaction report (Bangkok bank usually orders this and it takes 3-5 days to get for you)

- standard bank letter (which I explained in my earlier comment)

- updated bank book the date you apply for the extension (and copies of the relevant pages in it)

You don't mention what office you use (and there are over 80 in the country) but I'd sure go to your office well before you're applying for your next extension and hash it out with them that you can't get that "standard bank letter". As I said several people reported they couldn't get their extension until they actually got the bank to write that letter

ATTENTION EVERYONE; this is ONLY a Bangkok Bank policy, other banks are fine issuing everything you need to get your extension documentation wise

Oh and this is what the "standard" bank letter looks like (this was taken from a poster IN Bangkok Bank at Chaengwattana)

thanks! I’m planning on visiting Bangkok Bank (my branch on Sukhumvit, near Soi 8 ) this coming Monday. I’ll advise this thread if I learn anything further.

FYI, the earlier discussion I had with the Bangkok Bank rep who originally told me about this was back in April.

@Tod ********
Is this a recent change of policy from Bangkok Bank? They were fine issuing a letter and statement to me on 24th July. If this is really a new policy I will have to consider moving my funds to another account for next year’s extension.
Tod *********
Yep there are several reports scattered around the inter-web where people said they couldn't get that "standard bank letter" issued
