I am asking for a friend who is gonna relocate here, in December.

Have also asked in local forum which seems more focussed on food options...., and still awaiting response. But does anyone have a list of the "CURRENT" requirements for a 12-month extension of stay at Surin Immigration Office, Kap Cheong district. (Non-Imm O-A) category visa entry. This will be first application this province. Have had previous extensions both Bangkok and Pattaya.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A friend relocating to Surin needs to know the current requirements for a 12-month extension of stay on a Non-Immigrant O-A visa. It's recommended to visit the Surin Immigration Office directly for up-to-date information, as each office may have slightly different requirements. Generally, the requirements include providing passport documents, proof of financial means, health insurance, and a processing fee. A helpful checklist mentioned includes: passport copies, extension application form (TM 7), financial proof of funds or income, a map to the residence, photos, and a processing fee.

His best bet is to show up in Surin and then slog on over to the immgration office to get the hand out from that office.

That's the only way he's really gonna know.

There are OVER 70 immigration offices in the country and there is no "one size fits all" list of requirements.

please note that the immigration office is no longer in Kap Choeng and has been relocated in Surin city since June this year

The Immigration Office at Kap Cheung remains open, and the new office in Surin is a satellite.

OK. Last time i was in Kap Choeng in April i was told that the immigration office there was only to process workers from Cambodia and that all expats had to go to the Surin immigration office from June.

I did renew my retirement extension in Surin in June without any problem.

In that case, you were misinformed.

Cheers. I had asked the question on a Surin Group but the moderator denied the post as I didn't have a picture uploaded to my account with that group.

That Kap Cheong immigration office is one squirrelly office and they do things their own way. I really think (no matter how inconvenient it might be for you) that slogging out there with your passport and the documentation list you have to check with them is the way to go. OTHERWISE you might end up taking 2 or 3 attempts to meet the documentation requirement to get this extension

I"m surprised one of the Isan groups can't help your friend out 🙁

They have a Facebook page at

They don't have a website though.

Here's my catch-all "extension of stay based on retirement" list that should work for most immigration offices:

1. The applicant’s passport and a copy of:

a. The data “picture” page.

b. The most recent visa (if applicable).

c. The most recent entry stamp or extension of stay (if applicable).

d. The departure card (“TM 6”) that should be stapled in the passport.

2. The extension of stay application form (“TM 7”).

3. To meet the financial requirements of either:

- 800,000 THB in a Thai bank account seasoned for 2 months along with a letter from the bank. If renewing the one year extension of stay, the 800,000 THB must be seasoned for two months before applying and three months after the last extension of stay was granted, and for the money not to have been lower then 400,000 THB throughout the calendar year, Or;

- 65,000 THB a month in income to a Thai bank transferred from overseas, Or;

- A letter from the embassy stating the applicant receives 65,000 THB a month in income from overseas.

4. A hand drawn map to the applicant’s residence. Some immigration offices may want this map on a special paper.

5. 2x passport sized (4cm by 6cm) photos.

6. 1,900 THB processing fee.

7. Proof of long-stay health insurance for the desired length of stay (if less then one year).

The Surin Farang Forum has a section on Visa and Extension requirements which members find very useful. Please feel free to read the relevant pages by visiting surinfarang.com/forum/forums/visa-immigration-issues.27/ Better still, we would encourage those with interests (far beyond mere food) to apply for membership which will allow access (on approval) to the 'members only' sections too:

they say he's on an extension from an O-A so he'll also need proof of being insured by one of the 18 thai carriers that offer O-A insurance.

Is the Overseas Certificate still accepted from overseas ie UK? Instead of the hugely overpriced TH cos? ☺

you can use proof of your policy from your country to ENTER thailand on an O-A, you cannot use it to get a year extension at the immigration office from one. For a year extension on an O-A visa you need proof you are insured by one of the 18 approved thai carriers on this link.

Thank you 🙂 I pulled the answer from the "Non-O" data base, and not my "Non-OA" database.
