Hi there,

I'd like to ask what the deal is with tourist visas. I have family that wants to come over from South Africa. What are the options and how do you go about obtaining a visa or stamp at the moment and what are quarantine options. TIA

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the process for obtaining a tourist visa for family members wanting to visit Thailand from South Africa, specifically for a trip to Phuket. Key points include applying through the Thai consulate, obtaining COVID insurance, and completing a mandatory 15-day quarantine at a government-approved facility in Bangkok. There are options for a tourist visa that allows for a 60-day stay or a visa-exempt entry stamp that provides 45 days, both of which can be extended. The post emphasizes gathering updated information from the Thai Embassy.

and I think the O/P has the idea that this group is NOT the place to ask about how to go about requesting permission to get IN to thailand.

Good luck, take care, stay safe, we're done.

Best deal is that your family contact the Thai Embassy in South Africa and get all the needed information from them.

You will have to do the 15 days quarantine in Bangkok...then fly to Phuket.

There are no direct flights international into Phuket yet...

you can BUY a tourist visa from the thai consulate that will stamp you in for 60 days before you come, OR as a S/A you can enter the country on a visa exempt entry stamp and get 45 days when you stamp in.

Either entry can be extended by 30 days for 1900baht at the immigration office.

You apply for permission to enter thailand from the thai consulate in the country you're in. You need the 100K USD in covid insurance (for the length of time you'll be here), you need to book a 15 day quarantine at a gov't approved facility, you need to get a fit-2-fly certificate from a doc, you need a Certificate of Entry from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
