Asking here just to see if there is anyone in a similar situation that has explored these options and what they found as best...

I'm more interested in slow traveling SEA rather than staying long-term solely in Thailand. I thought about doing non o with annual extensions and re-entry permits, but unless there's a high yield savings account option, I hate the idea of parking $25k usd in an account for inflation and fluctuating exchange rate to erode away. In USA, you can get around 4% easy in mmf, or more if invested, so losing $1k/year minimum.

Has anyone just done two separate non-o visas in a year, staying 90 days each time? Obviously it's more tedious to reapply every time, but it keeps a hefty sum in an income-generating account while the cost of 2 visa applications isn't significantly much more than the cost of the extension plus re-entry fee. Has anyone tried this and were there any issues getting approved twice per year? I was originally going to do something like this on visa exempt but that plan is no longer possible with new immigration policies.

Other than convenience and simplicity, am I overlooking any factors?

Note: in looking into dtv, the cheapest I found still cost around $700 all up front once I pay the visa fee plus cost of program. My above scenario allows flexibility if I decide I want to go the full-time route a couple years down the road. But again, if there's a high-yield account option, I'd go that route immediately.

I didn’t read your plan in detail but it seems okay

There is also the multi entry tourist visa option which I believe is 6 months. You can stay for 60+30 days and then another 60 days (+7?). I have had second. thoughts about the non o at this stage and am looking into the multi entry tourist.

Alison Lewis A METV is a waste of money for someone wanting to spend 90 days in Thailand twice a year as when they have completed their first 90 days (60+30) there will only be a little over 2 months of the 6 month validity remaining so their 3 month stays cannot be spaced out 3 months apart. The cost will also make in unviable (visa cost plus two extensions) compared to the cost of two Non-O visas.

Yes, I have been doing two 90-day, Non-O visa trips each year for several years. It was much easier when the Non-O was multi-entry but single entry is still doable, with re-entry permit, if necessary. Just make sure you allow enough time between trips to apply for the visa online (about a month) Never had a problem, cost £60 and it's much easier than the Non-OA, which I did once, before the insurance requirement kicked in. Don't do the one-year extension, unless you want to tie up ฿800k in a useless local bank account. In 16 years, never needed a Thai bank account.

Graham Seal how have you been doing 2 Non-Os per year for many years? Do you stay 3 months and return an additional 3 months later? Do you do it on your own or use an agent? Please share or dm me. Many of us need to learn.

Why would you use an agent to apply from an embassy? His response is pretty clear based on the post. He gets a non-O from the embassy and then goes to Thailand. Then he returns home and later in the year gets another non-O visa. Two times per year. What is there to learn? There's nothing unusual about it.

Where I live , the police department refuses to issue police clearance and I could only get a simple letter from them that Thailand rejected!

If you don't want to put money in a Thai bank look at the Non-OA visa. A 12 month multiple entry visa which you get in your home country with funds in your home bank. It does however require insurance, medical certificate and police clearance
