TLDR : Answer Summary
To apply for a 90-day Non-O retirement visa outside Thailand, you will need to show the equivalent of 800,000 Baht in your bank account, regardless of the currency you're using. This amount must be reflected in a bank statement that is dated the same date as your application. After arriving in Thailand, you can open a Thai bank account and transfer these funds. It's important to maintain this amount in your account for the necessary duration to secure your extension when you apply for a one-year visa extension.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
  • Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
  • For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
  • Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.
  • Join the Thai Visa Advice Facebook Group to ask your questions, and get advice from others.

Gets complicated? That is where visa agencies dig their business from.

To answer your question you need the equivalent of 800k BHT in your own bank account in which ever country and currency you reside. Just one bank statement dated the same date as your application. Once in Thailand open the Thailand bank account and move the funds across. Job done

Ok your outside of Thailand ok,so first is o-visa but that's on online ,your own bank account as to have 800,000 buat or equivalent in the local bank ,plus the paperwork for the o-visa ,what you do get into Thailand, go and get a bank account within Thailand (if you can get someone with an account to go with you to help)

Buat, is that a new currency? 😂

If you’re talking about applying for a Non O outside of Thailand 🇹🇭, you’re talking out of your arse!

You are so WRONG!

Why post when you don’t know? People on this site are reaching out for help. You are doing the opposite!

I would not call names, just reading what the members are saying. Chill off.

Apply for a Non O in your home country. The Thai 🇹🇭 consulate or embassy in your home country will tell you what is required to APPLY for a Non O (it is not that much).

When you get to Thailand 🇹🇭 with your Non O visa, you will then be able to open a Thai bank account. You will need to deposit 800,000B at least two months before applying for your 12 month extension. The 800,000B will also need to sit in your account for 3 months after your extension has been granted. Following that, the amount cannot drop below 400,000B until the cycle starts again.

Please bear in mind that the practice of using an agent to ‘deposit’ money in an account, supposedly in your name is illegal and may lead to consequences for you further down the track. It may also be difficult to escape the agents clutches, should you choose to go down this path.

I hope this helps.

Ok, so if Bulgaria’s 🇧🇬 embassy is not showing any compassion toward you, I am sorry to hear.

I am really so, so sorry that I am not aware of every single country’s state or the Universe🙏

I am so sorry.

@Frangipani ******
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 a simple check of his profile would have told you that he is a Bulgaria citizen. You know, the World does NOT revolve around the United States of A
Frangipani *******
Just read my post and you’ll get it. Hopefully.
Greg ***********
@Petrov *******
as a Bulgarian citizen, you still have the option to enter Thailand visa-exempt, get an account opened with the help of an agent and transfer a minimum of 800,000 THB onto it. Then you can apply for the "change of visa type" from the 60-days visa-exempt entry stay permit, to a 90-days Non-Imm-O retirement visa, and subsequently to the 1-year extension
Greg ***********
@Petrov *******
sadly I see neither the website of the Thai consulate in Sofia, nor the website of the Thai embassy Bucharest has been updated. The last update of the Thai embassy Bucharest is from 30 November 2022, and there is ZERO information about requirements regarding the application process for a Non-Imm-O Retirement visa. These two websites are an absolute chaos, and the website of the consulate in Sofia is unsafe to open (my virus defender warned!)
Greg ***********
@Petrov *******
for the e-visa application to a 90-days Non-Imm-O retirement visa outside of Thailand, you will have to show the equivalent of a minimum of 800,000 THB in a bank account that is in your sole name. It doesn't matter where this account is, it can be on a bank in your home country or on a Thai bank account. For the application to the 1-year Extension of Stay Permit, a minimumof 800,000THB must have seasoned in your Thai bank account for 2 months
Frangipani *******
@Greg **********
seeing that you want to pick a fight, your first statement is incorrect.

As I have stated too many times now, the 800,000 B only applies when you apply for an EXTENSION.

Prior to that, it depends on what county you apply from .

PRONTO!

@Greg **********
sorry mate. You are WRONG.

Please don’t post unless you try to understand what you are talking about!!!!
Greg ***********
@Frangipani ******
of course he can enter visa-exempt and apply for the "change of visa type"to a 90-days Non-Imm-O Retirement Visa on Immigration, if he fulfills the requirements . . . . . If you do not know about this possibility, you should not post,
Frangipani *******
@Greg **********
Of Course he can..?

You may not know that every IMO has different rules,

Why do keep posting incorrect shit on this site?
Greg ***********
@Frangipani ******
You should really stop posting and leave any visa advice to the experts . . . . .click onto number 9, it shows the standing police order of requirements for the "change" to a 90-days Non-Imm-O Retirement Visa on Immigration. OF COURSE Everybody over 50 years can apply for the change. How his specific Immigration will actually interpret this police order, this is something YOU and Myself and NOBODY can predict. At least I know that Jomtien, Khon Kaen and Surat Thani have slightly different requirements on the bank deposit (needs a seasoning for the initial visa, not just for the application to the extension. He has asked for the financial requirements for the visa application, and I have shown him a way to avoid applying in his home country but apply for the Non-O visa on Immigration inside Thailand. Click on number 9 and learn something new . . . .

"Apply for a Non O in your home country. The Thai 🇹🇭 consulate or embassy in your home country will tell you what is required to APPLY for a Non O (it is not that much)." 😂 . . . . . . . . . . . your advice is useless . . . . . . the consulate of his home country doesn't show any requirement info. And the website of the embassy Bucharest, which he could use as a citizen of Bulgaria, also is useless. There is zero info on their website, which is a complete mess and hasn't been updated since November 30, 2022. So your advice gets him nowhere. So much for you telling me not to post if I don't know what I am talking about. I apparently know a lot about the threadstarter's situation. You should have checked where he is from, before you posted useless advice 😉 Please don’t post unless you try to understand what you are talking about!!!! 😎

@Frangipani ******
pray tell me WHAT part of my advice would be wrong 🙂
Frangipani *******
@Petrov *******
They would all have slightly different requirements depending on the currency.

I don’t know, it will depend on the embassy/consulate where you apply. Why don’t you check their website?

800k baht
Greg ***********
@John *********
the Thai consulate in his country (Bulgaria) doesn't give out any info, and the Thai embassy of Bucharest/Romania he has to use for the application to the Non-O visa, doesn't have ANY information on the requirements. Both websites are a BIG mess. The Bucharest website most recent update is from 30 November 2022, and they don't even state if they use the e-visa system or not . . . . . both institutions are completely useless!
John **********
@Greg **********
The website for consulate in Sofia was updated August last year and clearly points to the evisa website to apply for visas and information on visa requirements and gives a minimum processing time of 21 working days. The evisa website lists the requirements for a Non-O based on being over 50 including the 800k requirement.
Greg ***********
@John *********
Well I opened the website despite my Kaspersky warning me. Neither is there any info about the e-visa system, and further there is not one lonely hint on the requirements for the application to the Non-Imm-O Retirement visa. You must have seen a different website or you must have been dreaming 😃
John **********
@Greg **********
lol. You trust Kaspersky? Are you for real?
Greg ***********
@John *********
absolutely. Kaspersky has saved my computers many times, over two decades. Why would he destroy his business base? All that bad talk about him is big BS. I once tried NORTON Antivirus - that shit was a problem by itself 😄

@John *********
could you please give me a valid link to the Royal Thai Consulate Sofia, a link that doesn't send my Virusscanner into alarm mode ? 🙂

I thinking to do this :you can apply for non-o over 50 in Kuala Lumpur, you just have to prove that you have the money somewhere, then you come to Thailand (90 days entry stamp) and immediately open a bank account and transfer the money, after 2 months you go to the immigration office to get a 1 year extension
Greg ***********

requirements in Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur) are

yes. you could do this, apply for a 90-days Non-Imm-O Retirement visa via the E-Visa Online System handled by the Royal Thai Embassy Kuala Lumpur. IF you fulfill their requirements!

It tends to be complicated. Bear with me, I went to Thai Visa Center , an agency, August 2024.

They can sort out my Pension visa.

How about 800,000 THB in my bank account? I can not even open the account.

They said - they will open it for me.

No need to have 800K THB, they will make it, somehow. (I have that money but can not open Bank account on my own).

If you have no residence in Thai, the price for their services is 58,000 THB.

If you have, as I do, my own condo, the property deed is in my name, the price is 52,000 THB for their services.

I have to be in Thai for 2 months (as of now, possible) and they will extend my stay for one more month and then they will log my Pension visa application.

The agency has reasonably nice premisses, even two ATM machines by Bangkok Bank and Siam Commercial Bank on the floor.

That is where my knowledge stops.
Chang ******
@Jim ******
what is pension visa ? And witch country are you from .

I know that US embassy won't provide affidavit .
Greg ***********
@Jim ******
are you aware you are by now caught inside the agent's hamster wheel because they fronted the 800,000 THB and didn't use your own money in your own bank account to grease the palms of the Immigration? Or did they use your own money and still made you pay their hyped service price as if you didn't have own funds? The mind boggles.
Sigurd ************
@Jim ******
It's a Rip off and illegal.
Thomas *******
@Jim ******
your knowledge stopped before it even started. What a waste of money.
Jim *******
@Thomas ******
My knowledge starts with:

I have:

800,000 THB to deposit into my bank account if I could open one.

My own condo, yellow book, in Bangkok.

Thai wife, legal marriage.

Our Thai national daughter.

To apply from outside of Thai, I need health insurance (that may go into 100s of US$ per month), police clearance from my country of residence. I can do both but none of 2 above is needed when applying from within Thai.

Then, I have to be in Thai for 2 months, the money has to sit in Thai bank where I can not open an account without retirement visa for 2 months - for which I can apply only after 2 months and without Thai bank account - not possible.

Thais, simply, hate to see us there. Visa agencies found some loophole that we can not use without them.
Stuart ***********
@Jim ******
you don't need insurance to apply for a visa outside Thailand. That is the non OA visa that very few use now. Most people get the non O visa instead, before they come to Thailand and that way you can open a bank account without an agent.

Using an agent to deposit 800,000 baht for you Is illegal. If the immigration officer is investigated all of their visas are cancelled and you will be deported (yes it does happen I have spoken to 2 people this happened to). My advice would be to delete your answers on here and get a legal extension next time.
Jim *******
@Stuart **********
I have been to Thai exactly 100 times since 2000, never stayed more than a month and have never had any visa. It is a 5 hours flight for me.

Why would I delete answers that are rolling in the streets, anyone can see them on the net?

When applying from outside of Thailand, Thai Embassy site says:

"8. One original and one copy of health insurance policy

● Must issue by insurance company in Thailand, Japan or other country

● Must cover all the period of stay in Thailand

● Must cover not the medical treatment of not less than the equivalent of 40,000 Baht for out-patient benefit and not less than the equivalent of 400,000 Baht of in-house patient benefit"
Kim *********
@Jim ******
no health insurrance for the non-o - only for the non-oa. You didn't read it properly - read it again.
Jim *******
@Kim ********
Non - O Visa, requires health insurance when applying outside of Thailand.

***********************************************
Stuart ***********
@Jim ******
unsure what travelling here hundreds of times and 5 hour flight has to do with it, but I thought you said you got an agent here to apply for your visa?

Up to you, but if I was doing something illegal i would not advertise it on Facebook.

You are clearly looking at the wrong visa, you need to look at the non O visa not the non OA.
Jim *******
@Stuart **********
I do not have an agent, it was one agent office where I went for free consultation. I have not applied for anything yet. Those advertising are the visa agencies, Internet has thousands of them.

100 times to Thai from Japan (a 5 hours flight) with 1 month stay without any visa just says (if it holds) with 2 months stay I can go 3 times a year and need nothing, my fully furnished and functional home is always there. Don't need bank account, visa, insurance other that what can be bought at the airport of departure. Can even hop on a low coster to Singapore or Vientiane and get another 2 months if I must.
Stuart ***********
@Jim ******
fair enough and yes there are lots of visa agents. Some people struggle with the process and need help, I understand that.

The illegal part is circumventing the 800k baht part.
Jim *******
@Stuart **********
That was a warning light for me: when I told the agency I can deposit 800K Baht on the spot, they said they do not need that, no change in their fee, stopped short of telling me to forget about that deposit.
Stuart ***********
@Jim ******
definitely to be avoided, I agree.

It's a very simple process, if you arrive with your non O visa, you can then open a bank account, deposit 800k, wait 2 months then apply at immigration for the extension of stay based on retirement. I have extended mine 3 times now and it takes me less than an hour. It is 1 simple form to complete and lots of photocopies of your documents etc, no need for an agent. Good luck.
