What are the currency exchange options and requirements at Suvarnabhumi Airport for expats?

Although at Suvarnabhumi Airport Immigration it stated for you to prepare documents, passport Visa boarding pass and TDAC.

I presented the first three, and the TDAC was never asked for, I had my phone out in preparation.

,I received 41.9 Thai baht to GBP, all three kiosks were the same.

So Super Rich is no better than the others, and next time I will consider transferring all my spending money by wise, and not bring some cash to transfer.

or I will take some Thai Baht home for my next visit, just to get me through to my home in Korat.

I'm sure I saw 42.2 buying and 39.1 selling, but on checking my receipt it was 41.9.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the experience of a traveler at Suvarnabhumi Airport regarding document preparation and currency exchange. They noted that while required documents were presented at immigration, the TDAC was not requested. Exchange rates at airport kiosks were compared, with suggestions that exchanges outside the airport or in specific locations like the basement level near the ARL station might offer better rates. Various comments from the community provided advice on currency exchange practices and cautioned against using airport services for currency exchange.
Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)

WARNING: Only trust Thai government websites with .go.th domains or Thai agent websites with .co.th or .in.th domains, as these require verified Thai registration and cannot be registered anonymously.

The official TDAC form is available at tdac.immigration.go.th, which uses the official .go.th government domain.

The services by AGENTS CO., LTD. does NOT charge any fees for arrivals within 72 hours. If you need to book more than 72 hours in advance, there is a service fee of $8.

Do not trust other sites pretending to be a trustworthy agency. Pay attention to delivery time - the service operated by AGENTS CO., LTD. has 1 minute delivery time for arrivals within 72 hours.

Don't fall for sites pretending to be agents.co.th or the official government tdac.immigration.go.th website. Always double-check the exact domain in your browser.

Scam services may take days to process your application, others may not even do anything. With these TDAC scam services you also need to worry about double charges.

Please watch out for TDAC misinformation spread by fugitive Jesse Nickles and his many fake accounts on Quora, TripAdvisor, Reddit, and other platforms.

You could not be more wrong in your opinion, in regards of the BKK Suvarnabhumi Airport.

You will get the BEST Exchange rate of the whole of Thailand, in the BKK Airport basement with one of the three moneychangers

(SuperRich, Happyrich and Kasikorn)

across the platform of the Airport Rail Link shuttle train to downtown.
John ***********
@John ********
Not true. The basement exchanges are the same as you will get in the CBD via Superrich's orange exchanges.
Sylvia ********
What city are you heading to now?

So the first thing you do when you get to Paradise is complain about everything. Have a nice time šŸ™„

unless changing

s of $$$$, the little difference is not worth the time and travel cost. Use SuperRich, Vasu if on Sukhumvit ot TT in Pattaya

@Mike *******
I know all this. Wasn't me who asked the question buddy.

@Mike *******
You won't get any better rate at money changers in downtown Bangkok, than you will get in the BKK Airport basement with one of the three moneychangers (SuperRich, Happyrich and Kasikorn) across the platform of the Airport Rail Link shuttle train to downtown.

You will arrive at the airport anyways, so why would you take into account the hassle to use a taxi or walk some distance to find any other moneychanger, when you got the chance right there in the airport’s basement?
Brian ***********
At the airport , exchange enough $$ to get you through 1 day , and go into Yarrowat market and find the exchange offices there for best return .
Nongnuch ********
@Brian **********
you could not be more wrong. You won't get any better rate around the Yaowarat market than you get in the BKK Airport basement with one of the three moneychangers across the platform of the Airport Rail Link shuttle train to downtown

@Nongnuch *******
ya. Sure , pull my finger

TDAC linked to passport no, so they can see if it's done.

I agree, transfer spending money via Wise is best and pay via Debit. Superrich in the city offers better rates than many but the airport not much difference.
Andi ***********
Nongnuch Kamdee I never use ATM to withdraw money with WISE. I only use it for paying in supermarket, eating out etc only as a debit card.
Nongnuch ********
@Andi **********
then there is a monthly limit, usually 200 GBP. After you have spent this limit, your WISE card charges 1.75% provision on every purchase . . have you ever read the fine print of the contract?
Andi ***********
@Nongnuch *******
I know the limit which is why I also have a Rabbit card which is very useful for paying in THB and use that a lot. I also change currency in Super rich and pay in cash sometimes. I mix it up to limit fees
Andi ***********
@Nongnuch *******
it depends on the wise transfer. It costs nothing for me to deposit GBP into Wise. I then spend in THB via debit. The GBP exchange rate WISE uses is not significantly lower than Super rich and the like
Nongnuch ********
@Andi **********
you forgot to tell us that you always pay the 250 Baht ATM fee every time when you take out money with your WISE Debit Card šŸ˜Ž. And your monthly spending limit is 200 GBP, from this amount on WISE charges 1.75% provision on everything you pay with their card
Nongnuch ********
@Andi **********
What most people who use WISE do never understand:

If you wish to do a FAIR comparison between a WISE transfer and the exchange of CASH in the BKK Airport basement, is the fact that on the WISE website, you must look at the exchange rate for which the money arrives in the recipient's bank account.

You mustn't look at the exchange rate WISE gives you! Because this is not the ā€œend-rateā€ you receive. WISE will deduct fees, and that’s what many people do not take into account in their calculations

I can rest assure you: exchanging cash in the airport basement will ALWAYS give you a better rate than the one you get with a WISE transfer.

@Nongnuch *******
Wise always inform you of their charge, and what you will receive.
Nongnuch ********
@Ronald ********
then you know at which numbers you need to look! On a WISE transfer, you will always receive a little bit less than what you would receive in the BKK Airport basement. You will NEVER get a better rate by WISE compared to the three Airport basement money changers
Sylvia ********
The best exchange is in the basement near the train station, is that where you went? I've been a dozen times and always been far higher than the bank kiosks, today 42.40, see attached below

@Ned ******
there is no GREEN Superrich in the airport basement. And further, the ORANGE Superrich will give you a BETTER exchange rate than the green Superrich
Ronald *********

@Sylvia *******
Yes in the basement.
Nongnuch ********
@Ronald ********
you are WRONG regarding a WISE transfer would give you more than one of the THREE money changers in the airport basement. If you wish to do a FAIR comparison, on the WISE transparent listing, you must look at the exchange rate for which the money arrives in the recipient's bank account. You mustn't look at the exchange rate WISE gives you! I can rest assure you: exchanging cash in the airport basement will ALWAYS give you a better rate than the one you get with a WISE transfer.

They don't ask for the TDAC unless they can't see it in the computer. The other things were correctly presented so good job there. Make sure you always check the stamp they put in your passport as well after you step away to make sure there are no mistakes.

As far as exchanging your money, best to not do that at the airport. I believe the ones in the basement level near the ARL station have slightly better rates based on what others have said, but outside of the airport is better in general.
Joe *******
@Brandon ***********
you should have got 43.2 to the £. There are many exchsnge booths in Sukhumvit 11 or go to the back streets opposite soi Nana where the Arab ladies in little booths give great rates.NEVER change money at any airport or hotel anywhere in the world! Best rates are also when you change £50 notes. Another tip.. all ATMS in Thsiland charge over 250bht..over £6 for any withdrawal..so go for the max..20,000 or more if they let you.YOu can of course go to any bank. Good luck.

slightly??? A difference of 2 baht

First thing I do Brandon when I've cleared immigration, is. check the stamp
Ian **********
@Brandon ***********
The booths in the exchange zone on level B are comparable in rates to any of the booths in Bangkok. It's the booths upstairs that offer poor exchange rates
John ***********
@Ian *********
I can't see how anyone is getting a better rate through Wise than through direct exchange through cash. The 3 exchanges down below offered the same rate as the Superrich orange branches, which is only 10-15 paise less than their green branch rates which are the best in town. A 3 baht difference between Wise and a basement exchange doesn't seem possible.
