Hi everyone :-)

Is it ok to show proof of funds at BKK in a foreign currency (MYR)? Or must it be exchanged to Thai baht before the immigration check point?

Thanks for your help!

TLDR : Answer Summary
It is generally acceptable to show proof of funds in Malaysian Ringgit (MYR) at Bangkok's immigration checkpoint, provided the amount is equivalent to at least 20,000 Thai Baht (THB). However, be cautious of exchange rates and the limited options for currency exchange available before the immigration checkpoint. It's advisable to have cash handy in foreign currency and consider exchanging it in the city for better rates.

Malaysian ringgit is exchangeable in Bangkok easily. That means equivalent to 20K thb in MYR should work.

Did you get your new passport?

:-) thankfully my son has been able to use his Norwegian passport for now... but we will start the renewal process for his other one as soon as we are back in Thailand. Thanks for all you help! :-)

And there IS an EXCHANGE BOOTH BUT NO ATM before Thai Immigration checkpoint upon arrival at BKK.

But the exchange rates at the airport are LOW...a ripoff IMHO...its best to exchange in the city....or at Superrich exchange booth lower level at BKK next to Skytrain.

thank you.

James Miller, there ARE exchange boothS before passport control counters (air side upon entry Thailand) at both airports in Bangkok. There is no ATM to withdraw cash before passport control.

You packed a suitcase with clothes to use during your holiday, so why not prepare yourself by reading the rules and pack your wallet with some extra cash?

. Yes I know, I was offering a possible reason why there are no ATMs on the air side at the airports. Could be a great money spinner for the banks. Charge people 500 baht to make a withdrawal. They'd make a fortune!

@Bobby *******
its NOT POSSIBLE...BRING CASH.

. Probably some technicality about not actually being in the country until you have passed immigration. Could be some banking regulations.

@Ja***
... Wow that is crazy that there is no option on that side. Imagine if you were asked to prove funds and then had no way to even withdraw cash :-/

Foreign currency equal to Thai baht is OK. Just be careful of exchange rate. Best to have OVER 20,000 Thai baht vs less and be denied entry if asked.

you live in Chang Mai and want to show proof of funds in Bangkok at an Immigration Checkpoint? If you mean you land at the airport and come into Thailand than the show of proof is in CASH.

Hi
@Rob***
... I live in Chiang Rai, but have been overseas for the summer. Just wanted to cover all bases and have cash on me as we fly back to Thailand... Landing in BKK. Thanks for confirming it is to be shown as cash :-)
