What are the criminal background check requirements for obtaining an STV from the US, especially regarding DUI arrests?

Regarding STV from the US:

They require a criminal background check (the embassy in LA said that it is usually from the FBI, not state). Is it acceptable to have been arrested for a DUI but never charged or convicted? Do I need to get the records certified (I believe this is an additional step)?

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for the STV from the US, a criminal background check is required, typically from the FBI rather than state authorities. There are questions on whether an arrest for DUI without conviction poses a problem for the application. Users suggest following specific consulate guidelines, as not providing the required documentation could lead to rejection. Some applicants have shared their experiences with obtaining the FBI background check, indicating that it is generally a straightforward process.

You mail your fingerprints to the fbi.

After they received them they send an email with a link so you can print them out.

Follow what the LA consulate told you, as that is what they want. If you don't give them what they asked for, they can reject you. They are the authority. You can not tell them they are wrong, without being rejected.

I am from AZ. AZ will not do criminal background checks so I had to use the FBI. It was really easy

Had to go to the local police station to have my finger prints taken. Then mailed them to the FBI with a reference to my emailed background check request. I received the report back via email 4 hours after they received my finger prints. Easy!

Can be a State Bureau of Investigations record. Can’t just print it off a computer. Has to be signed from someone at the records place. And mine, because it went through the Chicago consulate, had to be notarized.

do you know whether there is a reason to go with one or the other?
