Hey all, we're moving to Chiang Mai this fall. My husband will be teaching. I'm curious if anyone from the US knows this...does the background check for the Non-Immigrant Type B visa have to apostilled or officially certified? Or can we just order it from the FBI and that's good enough?

Same question in regard to birth certificates and marriage certificates.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires if the background check for a Non-Immigrant Type B visa to Thailand requires apostille or official certification and whether a simple order from the FBI suffices. Comments suggest that state police checks may also be accepted and that official-looking documents can be sufficient.

I used a print out from local city hall (which doubled as the court house). The print out said I had no open cases.

Just about anything official looking will do. If your husband has a record in the local community, maybe go to a different local community.

In my experience, background checks are issued by the individual state police, and not the FBI.

The Washington DC Thai Embassy website says “FBI or state “. Either way, i’m curious if it needs any sort of certified stamp on it or something. I know when my brother got his visa for Italy, it had to be from the FBI and it had to be apostilled. However, Thailand isn’t a part of the Hague Convention so I’m not sure if it needs an apostille or anything?
