Does the Thai Consulate in LA still accept a clearance letter/criminal record from a local police station? Is there anyone who recently got a visa with a clearance letter from a police department, not from state/FBI?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The Thai Consulate in Los Angeles has historically accepted police clearance letters for visa applications, but there is confusion about whether these need to come specifically from state or federal sources. Comments indicate that some individuals have used reports from local municipalities successfully several years ago, while more recent experiences suggest the requirement for state or FBI clearance has been enforced. Individuals are encouraged to seek recent experiences from others who have navigated this process for the most current information.

Interesting you mentioned this! I’m getting fingerprinted next week by local sheriffs department! It’s called a Live Scan Service. They send it on and I get the reply back to me!

Ours in November had to come from state or federal, this was for the DC office...

I assume "LA" is Los Angeles?

I got my police clearance report from the local court house. It said I had no open cases. Nothing more. That was satisfactory for Ministry of Labor (or whoever asked for it. I dont exactly recall).

Additionally a buddy of mine got theirs from a local municipality. His parents had to get for him and send via post.

Both instances was about 5 years ago. Things may have changed but I kinda doubt it. There certainly a lot of confusion on the matter.

The question I would ask, if I were you,

"Has anybody in the US recently obtain their criminal record/report, what did you use? where did you get it"

If you ask that way, you likely get answers from people who have experience instead of people who believe they are good guessers.

They have to come from SBI or FBI
