Do I need a criminal background check for my ED visa application in Vientiane?

Hello,

I am heading to Vientiane later this month to get my ED visa. On the list of documents it says I need a criminal background check. I already have a Disclosure and Barring Service certificate from the UK, but it was issued 4 months ago. Would that be okay? Otherwise I can get one here, but only I have 17 days left on my tourist visa (and their site says it can take up to 3 weeks). What is my recommended plan of action here? Thanks in advance =)

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on whether a 4-month-old Disclosure and Barring Service certificate from the UK will suffice as a criminal background check for obtaining an Education (ED) visa in Vientiane. They express concern about timing, as they have only 17 days left on their tourist visa. Responses from the community suggest that background checks may not be necessary for all nationalities, with some stating that Americans typically do not need to provide one. This adds uncertainty to whether the user needs to obtain a new background check in a tight timeframe.

I just received an ED Visa from there 2 months ago. My paperwork also said a criminal background check was required, but the school told me that didn't apply to Americans, and I didn't need one.

Nothing was said about it in Vientiane and I received my visa no problems.

What is your nationality ? I just called two schools that I know and BOTH said people don't need a background check or police report to get an ED visa from Vientiane

I think that's just something the school put down on their required document paperwork. There is NO requirement in Vientiane that you have a police back ground check to get a 90 day single entry ED visa.

I'm from the UK. I'm getting the visa through a Muay Thai School. It's on the list of required documents they have, so better to be safe than sorry.
