Hello. What are the chances of obtaining an METV visa (in London) when unemployed (and under retirement age) but with proof of funds...? Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The chances of obtaining a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) in London while unemployed but with proof of funds appear to be mixed based on community feedback. Some suggest that being unemployed should not hinder your application, especially since the METV is essentially a tourist visa aimed at those traveling or on holiday. Others emphasize the importance of demonstrating financial stability and meeting other requirements, with some individuals sharing that their applications were successful despite being unemployed. However, there are also warnings from users who faced rejection due to similar circumstances, indicating that the outcome may depend on individual case specifics and the embassy's requirements.

If you cannot supply what the London Thai Embassy require, you may as well apply for the visa in Tesco Lotus or

. It's not going to be approved.

I was in London a few weeks ago and was refused METV as no job and had to settle for SETV, I have more than enough money for the financial proof but they still wouldn’t give me it

You could always get a 6 month METV from any of the thai consulates in Australia because they don't have the residency requirement AND all you need to do is meet the proof of funds, (no employment).

I think that last year I only showed them:
- my company registration certificate,
- my account statement
- condo rental contract in Thailand.
- plane ticket (not sure about that one)
Going there on Tuesday again (this Monday is holiday in TH).

It’s totally fine to be unemployed. You are applying for a tourist visa hence you will be going on a holiday or traveling around for an extended period of time. Most employed people cannot do this long enough to warrant getting a METV.
If you have all of the other requirements you should have no problem to get an METV provided you are a resident of the country where you apply.
We are talking the thai embassy. Totally different kettle of fish. They are very leery of people who are unemployed and looking to come to thailand. Too often they end up in hospital on the thai dime.
Sophie Marielle that is the strangest thing. How can most people travel for 6 months while being employed? ... Students. Stay at home parents. Anyone wanting to travel long term. Etc...
Chinese tourists can’t get an METV in England. Only in China.
Maybe a letter from your last employer and a letter stating that you are taking a year off will do? Surely that has to make sense to anyone pushing paper at the embassy.

Right...! I read it was aimed more at Chinese tourists to help them bop in and out with ease...or perhaps digital nomads ?
In the UK you need to show that you're employed, self employed or a sub contractor. However, there's no background checks if you submit the minimum of paperwork

You should be OK, just knock up some headed paper and tell them it's your company and you're 'self employed'. They're more concerned about finances and your travel plans

Jon, just something with a business name and address on it, ie headed paper

Jon Wheatley They dont dont ask for Company registration if you're a 'sole trader'

They do ask for company registration info if you say self employed. She’d be better of writing her own employment letter maybe?
