What are the challenges and success stories for applying for a DTV visa in Kuala Lumpur?

Super anxious after applying for DTV in Kuala Lumpur over a week ago. Blowing up money on hotels, trying to do things outside but it just stresses me so much I can't as I have bad feelings. They hit me with requirements which I didn't expect earlier and sadly I didn't read this group before and anyway have tickets to KL for planned short trip so I thought I will apply here.

I have very complicated work situation. Company I worked for is registered in one country (there is not even consulate of this country to authenticate; they inform on website it must be done in embassy in... Bangkok, as they don't provide such services) and contract with address from another country (as they hire contractors from country with low taxes, most likely), digitally signed by both parties using Docusign.

I uploaded all of it a week ago but not exactly like they want from this very demanding list...

Any success stories from KL, Malaysia to cheer me up?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user expresses anxiety after applying for a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) in Kuala Lumpur, facing unexpected document requirements and struggling with a complicated work situation. They share experiences of high stress while spending on accommodation, and seek success stories from others who have applied from Kuala Lumpur. Community comments suggest that KL is known for being a demanding embassy, and that applicants often fare better in other locations. Some users recommend applying for a Soft Power Visa as a less stringent alternative, while others share similar challenges with the application process.

Why would they ask for a 6 months lease agreement in Thailand? Shouldn't you get your visa approved first?

Should you go forward in Malaysia, if it’s any help, you don’t have to stay in KL.

Anywhere in the country is fine.

Its your fault for not doing proper research

I live in Malaysia and applied here. They are very thorough and from what I understand, even once all documents are submitted, KL are one of the slowest to approve. I did speak to the lady there and she said the reason was many previous applicants are submitting false documents. These types ruin everything for the rest of us.

It took me around 4 weeks for the approval.

So you actually went to embassy of relevant country to get it checked and signed?

Embassy of relevant country told me that they don't sign docs in branch in Malaysia and that I have to go to main embassy in... Bangkok! But I can't. Because I can't leave Malaysia now.

seriously - why not apply through soft power?

I did it with a cosmetic procedure for hair loss (PRP) - but - to be fair, i did it almost a year ago when they first came out with the DTV, so things were not as strict.

I could have done it via digital nomad but I thought the documents required were much easier for medical treatment.

They are doing the right thing by the book.

The whole idea about the requirements is you can support yourself without stealing jobs from Thai people and being a burden on society.

I'm not judging anything. Just saying KL are doing things very by the book and that is their requirements.

Get them what they want or consider applying somewhere else. People say Hanoi is the easiest.

KL is infamous for being the most demanding embassy to apply from and the requests you have posted show why. There are much more friendlier embassies near to KL to get the DTV so if you are not able to get the docs required for KL then apply elsewhere, Others have failed at one embassy and been successful elsewhere.

I've already started reading about it knowing I will be rejected for 99% and I consider Jakarta or Taipei.

Probably with soft power DTV this time.

I should prepare for minimum twice cost, right?

AnxiousAfterApplying Jakarta is easier than Taipei for SP. in Taipei you have to show employment, business registration, income etc for softpower same as workcation. I got my workcation DTV from Taipei when you could apply in person. several softpower applicants were surprised by this. Yeah, you will have to pay again.

You must provide exactly what’s requested in the list. I received similar instructions, carefully reviewed each requirement, and checked them off one by one. My visa was approved a week later.

I'm unable to do so unfortunately. For example there is embassy of this country where my company has business registration but they informed they do not provide consular services under any circumstances but embassy in Bangkok will. However, I am unable to leave Malaysia.

And KL Thai embassy doesn't respond, don't pick up calls.

If I leave, they will reject me if found in any way, and now with online TDAC doesn't seems to be difficult. They informed me I must be in Malaysia during whole process.

Okay I see. For me I applied in one country but left before granted as I got bored. I thought if they ask for extra things I'll just upload them from where I go. In the end I was in another country by the time I got it approved.

AnxiousAfterApplying Yeah me too 🙂 so happy. What a gift. Wish you good luck in getting yours too.

If I had been rejected I would have tried again from Vietnam. Everyone I talked to who did it here had a fast and easy process.

Yikes, good luck. KL embassy ain't playing. If you can't provide everything you can leave it for over two weeks so that the application is cancelled then apply elsewhere.

May I ask..will this ‘2 weeks’ way work with all embassies? If ignoring them by not sending more documents as they require more, and then the system it will automatically cancel right? And is this way better than send more documents as they require but could get rejection? (I’m in the same situation as him)
