Hi everyone! We're finally in Thailand with our DTV, entry was really smooth no dramas at all. We printed out the e visa but they didn't even look at it :) All has been great and we've been enjoying the food and weather and of course people so far! Have had little trouble fumbling between different payment methods and never got the tagthai (as recommended by some) because cash seems to still be the way to go! We're getting mixed advise about opening a bank account and luckily for us, we secured a 6 months rental this week! Anyone has experience opening a thai bank account, if so, which bank do you recommend? Will having a rental agreement make it easier even on a dtv visa?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user reports a smooth entry into Thailand on a DTV (Digital Tourist Visa) and shares their initial experiences. They are seeking advice on opening a Thai bank account. Community responses emphasize that opening a bank account with a DTV visa is challenging due to restrictions on tourist visas. Although some suggest using apps like Truemoney or Wise for transactions, most agree that it's difficult to get a traditional bank account under a DTV visa. The user also inquires about the impact of having a rental agreement on this process, to which there is mixed feedback regarding its effectiveness.
True money is the best app, before you went to Thailand though, you should of taken as much GBP as you could so you can exchange when you get to Bangkok then you could put the money on the Truemoney app. With the DTV you can sign up to the advanced account which allows QR codes.
John Doe Da 1st been using revolut with no issues, i also have a touch n go (got it when i was in malaysia!) to use qr payments. ive avoided using wise due to the higher exchange rate but it works of course! we'll have to check truemoney wallet!
Even if you can find an agent that can assist in opening a bank account, it is probably best to not bother. Mainly because DTV isba tourist visa and you aren't supposed to be able to get one with a tourist visa. So even if the agent has a hookup at a local branch all it would take is someone in the corporate office to notice and close the account with no warning.
Sadly there are NO recent reports of being able to open a Thai bank account in your name with the DTV visa. It's considered a Thai tourist visa and now a tourist visa is NOT π« eligible for opening a Thai bank account.
You canβt open a bank account on a dtv, thereβs many posts in this group about that. However we pay with QR code everywhere with the app Moreta Pay, we really like it!
Opening a bank account with a DTV is extremely difficult. Some agents can assist but you need to be aware the account can be closed due to tourist visa restrictions. Opening a Wise account will be better if you don't have one.
