Hello everyone, planning to apply DTV soon and I want to ask if I should use my active Thai bank account (use it for daily) or an inactive one that i used to receive salary from previous job?

I want to use an active one but I'm worried it might get reported since dtv visa dont allow ownership of local bank acc thx

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on whether to use their active Thai bank account or an inactive one for their DTV visa application. They express concern over the possibility of their active account being reported, as DTV visa regulations restrict ownership of local bank accounts. Respondents clarify that it is generally acceptable to use a bank account that has maintained a minimum balance of 500,000 Baht for at least three months, regardless of its usage frequency. The conversation highlights the varying policies of banks concerning account activity and potential closure, with several users sharing personal insights and experiences related to their accounts.

The question of the application website is NOT about active/daily used account or an account where a salary gets deposit on regular basis.

I not understand the question and the discussion.

Use a bank account with an amount of minimum 500.000 Thb for the last 3 months.

You can use any daily bank account in your name worldwide that has the funds seasoned for the required time.

They will probably close your bank account as soon as you will ask for the bank statement required for the visa application

GrayWallaby8130 unlikely that soon if ever. No relationship with the bank account statements for submission with the DTV visa application

If you want to minimize the risk of having your account shut down use your account you received your salary in. But if it has been inactive you do know the bank will drain it and close it eventually. I'm assuming you opened the account while on a work permit right?

LongTimeLivingInThailand Yes that’s correct. Opened it while I was on work permit. I try to recently do some transactions here and there with that account to keep it active but so far, it’s still working. You think I can use that account for show money?

I don’t suppose the bank will drain away my 500k if there’s balance in the acc

Anonymous participant there is a regulation for inactive accounts. They can take all of it after a certain time period. Oh it's 10 years. But, my mother-in-law had her funds drained after 2 years of inactivity. They drained something like 100 Baht a month and it vanished in 6 months (lost 600 baht). So I guess it's bank dependent.

LongTimeLivingInThailand they only do that if the balance is under 2,000B AND there are no transactions for over a year. If you either have over 2,000 or one transaction per year it's not inactive and they can't drain it this way. It's not bank dependent as the rules are set by the Bank of Thailand. The dormant account is another thing but that's 10 years and the money goes to a government account which you can claim it back from, they don't keep it.

Whether you use it or not for your application, if you get a DTV, they'll close it sooner than later 👋🏻

they won't necessarily, if it doesn't come to their attention. And even if it does come to their attention banks vary on their policy, some won't close even then if the account was pre-existing. Some reports of limitations like not being allowed mobile banking but can keep the account. It's certainly a risk but it's not a given you can't keep an account open and I can understand someone moving onto a DTV not wanting to bring it to their banks attention.

That's why I said sooner than later. It's not guaranteed they'll close it, but if they do, there's nothing you could do to block it.

"sooner than later" is a shortening of the idiom "sooner [rather] than later" and means "in the near future", or "soon".

I think you meant "sooner or later", which means "at some unknown point in the future".

But even that may not happen. As you say it's not guaranteed they'll close it.

Either of these idioms mean that closing is guaranteed, either soon or at some point, but definitely going to happen. If it's not guaranteed to happen, it's not "sooner than later" and it's not "sooner or later" either.
