TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on the best visa extension options for their son, who is currently in Thailand on a 60+30 day TR visa. Due to his job search and the COVID-19 situation, they want to know if he should apply for a 30-day extension or a 60-day extension. Community responses suggest that he should ask the immigration office for a 30-day extension as a tourist. There are concerns about the difficulties of changing his visa status from a tourist visa to a Non-B visa while in Thailand, especially regarding job permits and legal working status.
It is possible to enter Thailand on a tourist visa/ visa exempt to look for a job. It is also possible to acquire a Non-B visa inside Thailand if a person has a job, and meet the basic requirements. It is illegal to work in Thailand on a tourist visa/ visa exempt. I don’t see the point in leaving comments on in this post. If anyone disagrees, send a mod a message and we’ll reopen comments.
I highly recommend having him asking the immigration office for a 30 day extension of stay based on being a tourist. I know there are some immigration offices that are difficult to go from a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19 to a one year extension of stay based on employment.
