As my last post just got polluted by non relevant comments, here I post it again hoping it won't happen again, thanks.

QUESTION ABOUT ED VISA AND PROPER THAI LANGUAGE SCHOOLS IN BANGKOK.

I'm thinking of taking Thai language classes in Bangkok and I'm wondering about price/quality/smooth visa process from different schools in Bangkok. Anyone could recommend a proper very good school for someone who really wants to attend to the classes ? What about the price ? And how long is an ED visa valid now ? If I'm not wrong it was changed from 1 year visa to 9 months now, not sure about that. Also, is the process getting more strict to get an ED visa due to the recent police raids in schools in the country ? Thanks in advance for all your recommandations.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion centers around finding reputable Thai language schools in Bangkok suitable for obtaining an ED visa. Recommendations include Duke Language School and Rak Thai Language School, both noted for their quality teaching materials. The validity of the ED visa is questioned, with some uncertainty whether it has been reduced from one year to nine months, and concerns are raised about stricter visa application processes following police raids at schools.

I was wondering about re-entries. You have to go to the inmigration everytime apparently? And any problem to come back sometimes?
Barry ******
Ed visas assume you are studying and attending most of the classes

You can take short trips if you like but make sure you have a good reason for them.

The only problem that can be is that you spend more time abroad than in the classroom where you supposed to be with this Visa.

Reentry is fine. Get a reentry permit beforehand and note that you have a reentry permit.

+1 for Duke

I‘m in my last month. Great teacher and books! Sometimes the classes could be a little bit smaller but it’s still okay.

FYI: Good schools allow prospective students to sit in a classes and determine if they feel the lessons are suited to their learning...

In my experience, some schools offer a variety of class sizes...ranging from private "1 on 1" to semi private, to small groups 3 or 4 students and larger groups. This allows you flexibility to choose what works best for you. Obviously the smaller the class the higher the course price which is divided by the number of students attending. Private being the most expensive but also offering the most flexibility.

Many years ago I did a TEFL course in Bangkok and taught English for several years....I also sat in on classes at severals schools before deciding. My program was 120 hours (4 hrs per day, 5 days per week), so it is important to feel comfortable with the instructors teaching style.

Totally agree :-)

Fair enough, but what one person likes might not be suited for you...hence sitting in on a school lesson, which is convenient for you to attend (especially during the rainy season) is helpful... ;-)

I know but as they are so many schools in Bangkok, getting a short review on which ones are the best will allow me to avoid to get sit on 100 of them ;-)

Okay, after touring more than 20 thai language schools in thailand back when I wanted to learn thai I can say without a doubt right now the best thai language school in Bangkok is DLS - Duke Language School, 3rd floor Trendy Building Sukhumvit Soi 13. They have the best material I have ever seen.

A second choice would be RTL - Rak Thai Language School, 10th floor Mahatun Plaza, Ploenchit BTS.

You should pick a few schools, go scope them out yourself, sit a free lesson, talk to the enrolled students and THEN decide which one is better for you.

When I studied thai I was told that I should put in double time at home compared to what I did in school to actually be able to learn.

, about the learning, it’s completely up to you. All the schools are basically the same in three hours a day for 20 days per session. But, they also all require you, the student, to put in some hours on your own to memorize words and sentence structure. I’ve studied at three schools, and have learned at each and sort of feel that all schools are good for learning. Duke does have the best books by far though.
