TLDR : Answer Summary
In response to the inquiry about the best places to visit in Thailand for Australians, popular destinations mentioned include Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Ko Samui, and Kanchanaburi. Australians do not need a visa for stays up to 30 days if entering through specific airports, but there is an option for a tourist visa giving 60 days with a potential 30-day extension. Vaccination status may affect entry protocols and potential quarantine requirements. Various islands like Koh Chang, Koh Kood, and Koh Phangan were also highlighted as appealing destinations.

Koh Chang is great. Lots of nice beaches, bars and restaurants. Plenty of massage shops open also. You can easily get to Koh Kood and Koh Mak from here also.

Koh Kood, Koh Mak the last Islands worth visiting in Thailand. The rest is touristic and expensive.

Kanchanaburi (the movie Bridge on the River Kwai was based on events there) is fascinating - the Death Railway, war museum and war cemetery are tourist attractions. It’s worth a visit.

Good to see Maya bay, but it's closed. Nice to go to Silom islands, but they are closed. Could go to Tiger village, but it's closed. I hear JJ market is open if you like shopping? Elephant sanctuary, but it's closed.

You need to apply to go to Thailand depending where you fly into and if you are fully vaccinated will depend on what quarantine you have to do.

Keep a watch on the Thai forums as to new rules or changes of rules that are supposed to be announced this Friday.

Most popular are Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Ko Samui, etc.

As an Australian citizen you can enter with no visa (visa exempt) and get stamped for 30 days, or you can buy a tourist visa from your local consulate and you’d get stamped in for 60 days. Both options allow a one off extension in country for a further 30 days.
