Appreciate any comments and advice. (I have a non O with 1 year ext retirement visa.) After 3 weeks of attempting to resolve this, here’s where it’s at. My wife is not near 50. So after speaking and meeting with many visa agents both here in BKK and Pattaya, I’ve concluded that even the best agents, that I have so far found, cannot get a non O dependent visa for my wife approved. And even the optional DTV school path is being denied. It looks like we would both have to return to the US and start over with applying for non OA retirement for me and non O A dependent for my wife. We would apparently need insurance and I’m 74 so if even possible it would be very expensive? Any comments or advice is appreciated.
Answer summary
The individual has a non-O retirement visa but is struggling to secure a dependent visa for their wife due to her age (under 50). After consulting several agents in Bangkok and Pattaya, they found that obtaining a DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) might be a viable option, but agents have been hesitant to recommend it. Other suggestions include applying for an ED visa tied to a school, which could later be transitioned to a dependent visa. Many commenters provided advice, confirming that obtaining a DTV is indeed possible, even suggesting direct communication with schools rather than relying on agents.

Why? Nowhere OP says his wife wants to to a remote job of softpower for years long.

DTV is in the first place a digital nomad visa.

the other option is she gets a job, or elite visa. Take your pick

yes there is non-o for retirement and non-oa for retirement.

But the clue
@John *********
proposes is first ED visa plus extension, and then change extension.

isn’t that retirement?

My wife is under 50. She follows my Retirement Visa/extension every year and I don't use an agent anymore. Plenty of paper work though.

And the 800K stays at 800K. My kid even followed my retirement visa/extension for a while too. So I had the whole family as dependents while on a retirement visa/extension.

We assure you it can be done ✔️

The nuance of this is, I suspect, maybe they don’t know how, (respectfully)? 🙏

That being said, there may also very well be (often are) other options you potentially haven’t yet considered.

Well pop us a message any time 🤗

Good luck 🤞🏻

the Non O/A visa for you is out of consideration, as by the time you need to go from the visa to the 1-year extension, you will be 76 years old and there is not one single mandatory for you tgia-listed Thai private health insurance that would be willing to insure you. Take the Non-Imm-O route for yourself and the DTV route for your wife, which she can get when applying outside of Thailand, on a 6-months cooking course and with a minimum of 500,000 THB equivalent in her bank account. Some Thai embassies require the money must have been sitting in her account for a minimum of 3 months. You should ask the relevant Thai consulate or embassy how they handle it. And you definitely don't need any agents or the bypassing of any rules. You can do that the fully legal way

It’s not easy, but most definitely can be done in Thailand, specifically Jomtien/Pattaya but will cost you around

,000 baht for the convenience of not leaving. Anyone saying it’s not possible doesn’t understand how to do it. Send DM and I’ll happily send details to you.

DTV visa is not a lot of profit for agencies to take advantage of…. That’s my guess why nobody has recommended it… non o and non oa have requirements more frequently and need hand holding (I.e.- ability to charge fees to those that need assistance)…. Season the money … get a class and apply for the DTV…

Once you get it… always make sure when you return, you have a class scheduled and the money in the bank. Best of luck

DTV might not be profitable to agencies, but it is also a temporary solution when you ant to live in Thailand.

I agree. Get a DTV. Don't listen to those agents.

DTV is not a path to non-o dependant, then the wife needs training till she is 50.

And? DTV will solve the problem for 5 years. She can get non O when she is 50.

I nowhere read 5 years is enough, I only read not near 50.

5 years softpower training for DTV is a lot

She can't get non O until she is 50.

of course she can and everyone can, no need to have 50. I have non immigrant O and I'm not yet even 40. Don't mess the retirement visa with non O. There is plenty non O visas.

Your wife can't get a Non-O dependant visa in Thailand, and not anywhere nearby, possibly anywhere at all based on you being on a Non-O visa. It might be possible if you got a Non-OA visa but not guaranteed, that would be up to the consulate you got the Non-OA visa issued by. An alternative might be to have your wife sign up to study with a school in Thailand and get a 90 day ED visa which she would need to extend for a further 90 days and when that extension is coming to an end rather than getting another extension based on studying change the reason to one of being your dependant. She would actually have to attend school and study for the 6 months though

Nonsense. The agent is just trying to rip him off or doesn't have a clue. My wife follows my Retirement Visa/extension for past 14 years and she's under 50.

LongTimeLivingInThailand things were different 14 years ago. Getting extensions isn't a problem, it's the initial visa that's the problem

He already is 74 years old. If he starts on the Non-O/A visa, by the time he needs to have a mandatory tgia-listed Thai private health insurance, he is 76 years old. Only a handful of tgia-listed Thai insurances allow you to set up a contract until the age of 75, and then you need to pay up for the rest of your life steadily yearly rising rates. Starting on a Non-O gives him more flexibility

She should go the "soft power"route of a DTV

There's no reason why your wife can't get a DTV. It's the best solution, lasts 5 years and only requires a border bounce every 6 months. Your agents are money grabbing yearly renewal greedy morons for telling you a DTV isn't an option.

OA requires insurance and as you say expensive. Why can your wife not get DTV for say cookery school. Speak to a school direct and not to agents. Good luck.
