TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses using Google Fi in Thailand, with users sharing their experiences and tips. They mention that the Google Fi international data plan works well in Thailand, allowing for easy data usage without any additional setup. However, for voice calls, users found them to be more expensive, suggesting alternatives like local SIM cards and apps such as magicJack, Skype, and WhatsApp to stay connected at lower costs. It's also noted that purchasing a local SIM can provide very affordable data options.

I used Google Fi in Thailand for a long time. It worked great and the data is cheap. Not a real bargain for voice calls but data is cheap all over the world.

OMG! Super expensive calls outside of USA. Don't do It! Purchase a SIM card at the airport

Also if you need to call landlines back home, Skype is $3/month unlimited minutes
yes, I use WhatsApp for most of my calling (friends, family, clients), but Skype is good for calling businesses, banks, government offices etc (especially govt because often you are on hold for ages)
