TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses using Google Fi in Thailand, with users sharing their experiences and tips. They mention that the Google Fi international data plan works well in Thailand, allowing for easy data usage without any additional setup. However, for voice calls, users found them to be more expensive, suggesting alternatives like local SIM cards and apps such as magicJack, Skype, and WhatsApp to stay connected at lower costs. It's also noted that purchasing a local SIM can provide very affordable data options.

I used Google Fi in Thailand for a long time. It worked great and the data is cheap. Not a real bargain for voice calls but data is cheap all over the world.

OMG! Super expensive calls outside of USA. Don't do It! Purchase a SIM card at the airport

@Rich *******
yes, I use WhatsApp for most of my calling (friends, family, clients), but Skype is good for calling businesses, banks, government offices etc (especially govt because often you are on hold for ages)
Craig *******
I have unlimited data for 150THB for 30 days with dtac

A thai sim will give you plenty for about $30,a month.

Thanks guys. I'm on ATT now but need to switch to a unlocked phone and I saw that google fi looks pretty good. I'll make the switch.
Rich ********
And yes, I added a Thai sim too. You need it.

@Rich *******
just a note about this. The Google pixel has an esim and then I added a physical sim for my Thai phone number.
Rich ********
You don't have to do anything. Calling people on the phone is more expensive. Data works the same. I did unlimited and tethered my laptop and tablet.
Rich ********
I used fi last year from March to November in Thailand. It was pretty awesome.
