TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion focuses on various health insurance options for families in Thailand, with recommendations such as AIA, Allianz, Pacific Cross, and Cigna. The importance of using a broker for policy selection and claims assistance is emphasized, as brokers can negotiate better terms and facilitate smoother processes during medical emergencies. Factors to consider when choosing insurance include the type of coverage (Thai vs. International), premiums, yearly limits, and pre-approval requirements for hospital admissions. Personal experiences shared suggest that selecting an insurance company that offers direct billing can significantly ease hospital visits.

You need to understand there is two different types of cover. 1. A Thai Comapny - AIA, Pacific Cross and so on…

2. Global expat cover - Cigna and so on..

There is zero benefit in going direct. Use a reccomended and established broker. Who will be in your corner. Not just for sourcing it, but heaven forbid in the event of a claim. I happen to use Luma and they are excellent

If you have a long-term visa, you might want to consider Allianz. It’s popular among international clients and offers special pricing when children apply together with their parents

Any brokers all over Thailand will give you options . First decide if you want international policy or Thai only policy , difference is premiums and max yearly limits . Difference in premiums is huge, in many cases almost double and keep in mind yearly and age increases . Also something to consider is which insurance does not require a deposit with hospital . Yes all say fave a direct billing , but if you end up

In ER, you either have to pay a deposit and later claim from insurance or wait for pre approval letter ( which may take from a few hours , to a few days ) I personally chose AXA because I read no deposit and sure enough 2 months ago when admitted to ER and in ICU 1 hour later , I was not asked to pay any deposit but hospital did ask me to sign if AXA not pay, I will .

Before that I was with April , had to either pay and claim later with insurance or wait for pre approval , In my case took about 16 hours to hear back from April

AIA is the most widely used health insurance. Just find a good broker rather than trying to buy direct

From my perspective a good broker works for you and not the insurance company. As an example I spent a couple of nights in hospital a year or two ago, when it was time to go the hospital was preparing until they had the payment from the insurance company. I called the broker who sold me the policy, handed him over to the hospital staff, and was out of there 10 minutes later

Vera Khwanruethai a bit like with car rental companies; nobody leaves a review when things go well, only when they do not.
