TLDR : Answer Summary
The query about free VPNs for accessing UK TV shows a consensus that while some free options exist, they are often inadequate for streaming purposes. Many commenters recommend paid VPNs like NordVPN and Surfshark for better reliability and speed. There are alternative suggestions such as using IPTV with devices like Amazon Fire Stick or Kodi for accessing UK content without needing a VPN. A few users mentioned specific free VPN services like ProtonVPN and SuperVPN, but noted limited effectiveness for streaming.

I had a free VPN that was pretty good until apps started shutting down on me and accounts wouldn't let me logon. Even when the VPN wasn't running.

Turns out it is a Chinese Company that was found to have supicious code.

I purchased a 3 year subscription to an American Based VPN. And everything is fine.

Actually, a 3-Year Subscription is a little risky because many private companies don't like VPNs and actively try to shut down servers one-by-one. (Mostly Banks and Streaming Services. Emphasis on the later)

Who knows what the law will be in 3-years.

Good is not free... I use Surfshark VPN it was around £45 for 25 or 26 months. Less than £2/month.

I have been using Private Internet Access for years (inexpensive) but both speed and support got worse and I switched to Nord VPN, clean interface and very fast (I have a 500mps connection and close to zero trade off in speed) Pricing is on the moderate side. If you go for free VPN, you won't get the same speeds.

no, even with a high speed connection like 1000MBps you end up at 200MBps when using the best VPN providers such as "Nord VPN". 4k streaming without buffering brakes is not available for free.

Free VPNs might be OK for casual internet browsing but useless for streaming TV. Nord or Surfshark are only a few £ or $ a month, they always have discount codes available.

Surfshark no longer fools the BBC tech.. they know you are overseas and prohibit access to the service.. tried it unsuccessfully and cancelled!

I can't recommend Cyberghost. Had it for 3 years and gave up trying to stay connected to iPlayer etc. They have dedicated connections for UKTV but they rarely work because they got blocked quickly. Currently looking into IPTV.
