Ibis Riverside is a great mid range Hotel in a great location, you can even take a night time river cruise with dinner from nearby Icon Siam and see many of the important sites of interest, also not far from Lumpini park where you can see the giant Water monitors strolling around,

If you are coming alone, I suggest the Kritthai Residence Hotel, which is direct across the street the MBK mall and walking distance to Siam Square as well. Also, the Stadium BTS is at the doorstep. Agoda has good pricing for this hotel. For even cheaper pricing is Citrus Sukhumvit 13 Nana or Citrus Sukhumvit 11 are a good choices. These two are more located to the nighlife, club and food scenes. Another point is that these are low rise hotels which many people are considering due to recent eathquake event. Cheers!!

Google Maps is quite helpful as you can see hotels close to train services. MRT/Skytrain are efficient and cheap so no problem staying further out but try and avoid peak commuter times.

Miami Hotel in Sukhumvit. Used to be quite grotty but I understand it has recently been done up.

Budget friendly is subjective. What is budget friendly to me might be expensive or cheap to you. But you just listed the 2 of the most expensive areas in Bangkok.
