What are the best budget hostels in Chiang Mai for a solo traveler from Bangladesh?

Hello Everyone

I am from Bangladesh. I will be traveling Solo to Thailand during the middle of September. During my tour, I will be staying in Chiang Mai for two nights. As I am on a solo budget trip, I will be staying in dorm / hostel bunk beds.

After going through reviews on booking sites and google map, I have shortlisted some budget hostels that are inside or near the old Town

1. U2 & i-smile Hostel ( 150 Baht per night)

2. Me-U hostel (130 baht per night)

3. Oyo-531 Le Light ( 160 Baht per night)

4. 84 Gallery ( 190 baht per night)

5. @Home Hostel ( 180 Baht per night)

If any of you have stayed in any of these hostels, then can you please share your experiences? Would you recommend them? Which one would be best among these?

I am leaning towards Me-U hostel as it's comparatively cheaper than the other options. Any idea how it really is?

I would also appreciate your suggestions for other hostels within the similar price range ( no more than 150-180 baht or 5-6 dollar per night)

My requirements are:

1. The bunk bed must have curtains around it for privacy

2. Not a party hostel. Even if it's a party hostel, the rooms should be quiet enough to sleep comfortably. I will still carry ear plugs though

3. The toilet / Bathroom has to be at least moderately clean. Minimum basic cleanliness should be maintained at least.

4. Convenient location. Within or near old town will be preferred

5. Cherry on top would be if they offer free early check-in if there are empty beds (I will reach Chiang Mai by 8-9 am in the morning)

N.B. I know Stamps is the best and most popular hostel in Chiang Mai but 380 baht per night seems kinda expensive as I can stay 2 nights in less than 380 baht in the other hostels I mentioned above

Thanks in Advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A traveler from Bangladesh is planning a solo trip to Chiang Mai and is looking for budget hostel recommendations. They have shortlisted several hostels with nightly rates around 130-190 Baht and are seeking personal experiences and advice from others who have stayed at these locations. The traveler prefers a quiet, clean place with privacy curtains in bunk beds and flexibility for early check-in. They express a desire to save on accommodation to spend more on experiences and food during their stay.

if you are booking online -- there should be reviews from previous tenants. you should look your favorites up on agoda.com (example) and see the ratings of others traveling on your budget. Enjoy Thailand -- we must all love it or we wouldn't be here.

I understand all that but don't expect to much for what you want to spend (budget)your budget is the tightest I have ever seen I spend more than that on drinking water everyday Chokh di having an enjoyable time as a cheap Charlie

there are cheap charlies and there are people who want to travel but dont have budget, i think the hourly salary of this guy is probably a lot lower than you realise and calling him a cheap charlie is rather insulting. True ignorant westerner

hahaha you must work in a circus it's not an insult or being arrogant it's being truthful this guy has limited funds his meals will cost him more than his accommodation that why i question it so when you see him begging for food on the street you can be the good guy here and give him a room in your house Chokh di

I don't have to beg brother. I could have stayed in a 3 star hotel if I wanted. My family is solvent enough to afford me that. We stay in luxurious hotels when in family trip abroad.

But I am still a college student and I am self funding this tour with my own personal savings from part time jobs. I will still have enough cash and means to support me through any kind of emergencies if it ever occurs during my tour. I have been to three other countries before. Those too were self funded. I don't like taking money from my parents for my own pleasure and adventures

And unlike westerners, the people from third world countries are not given on arrival Visa. We have to apply for a visa from our country. We have to show proof of financial solvency and adequate financial capability in order to get a Thai tourist visa.

Many backpackers stay in hostels. The ones I mentioned above actually have hundreds of reviews.. mostly positive reviews. Posted here so that I could get personal opinions from the group members. Just for some peace of mind as this is my first solo trip abroad

I wanted to stay in hostels within such a rate so that I could stay a few more days in the beautiful country of Thailand. Hence I decided to cut down on accommodation and invest the extra money on traveling around more and trying more Thai cuisine. I will be trying lots of thai street foods and thai Buffets. So the money I save from accommodations will be better spent on those. To me personally during tours, food, cultural stuff, seeing things, visiting places are always more important than the accommodation

Hope I made myself clear. Thank you.

Seen western begpackers on the streets of bangkok, never seen a bangladeshi one. Think the person has the spirit of travel and has budgeted accordingly. They are very strict in issuing visas in Bangladesh and if he didnt have means to support himself they wouldnt issue his visa.

you work offshore if i remember rightly, dont know if you worked on ships where you have lots of 3rd world crew but i obviously sit and talk with these guys. They are paid nothing compared to us but compared to there own country its good. The guy wants to travel and has little budget and Lord Roche calls him a cheap charlie. Seems to me the thinking of an entitled d1ck

@Michael *******
i think that’s a fair comment. i respect your thought. I don’t work offshore. I work remotely in Thailand on an LTR visa

You should be asking the hostels these questions to get the answers you are looking for I would think majority of member in the group would never stay in hostels like you plan to do I know would never stay in hostels not my style Chokh di

yes I spoke to those hotels directly. I saw the reviews on various platforms as well. Then I shortlisted the ones with better reviews.

I actually wanted to know whether anyone from these Facebook groups stayed there and was looking for their own honest experiences.

And whether anyone could suggest a better place within the same budget. Somewhere they themselves stayed and had a good experience

You'd probably get better answers asking this in a Chiang Mai Facebook group.
