Insurance is a scam, they do any thing not to reimburse, reason why they don’t pay your medical bills at front , they always want you to pay and send proof to get reimbursed, scammers.

I used them 4 years ago and despite them promising that they would pay up-front for hospital fees they denied saying they wished to investigate my history first. Eventually they paid for a hernia operation but refused to pay for the after-care because it exceeded the end of the policy even though the policy clearly started that hospital treatment and any after care would be covered. From my experience I wouldn’t recommend them

0 baht. Most horror stories generally involve un declared medical conditions or only having a policy for a short time before making a claim. I was very concerned that they would find a way to refuse cover, bit was delighted when they paid my bill. Even after my Heart Attack, they happily provide the same cover and told me my heart is still covered for a further 4.2 million baht. So, success story. I have had just the one claim during my time with them.

Guys, the ‘Brokers’ commission is the most important item for the broker.

If you have a claim, the insurance company will try and claim ‘Pre-Existing’ or any other excuse as in alcohol related, to avoid paying out, whilst the ‘Broker’ in general are speechless unless you escalate!

Ask the question “Is it medical insurance” or “Accident Insurance” and is the ailment “Chronic” or “Acute” and then decode the answers

If Thailand were to demand health insurance from ex pats then they should supply the insurance at a fair price, so we don't get ripped off by Pacific Cross etc

Unfortunately, you never know how good an insurer is until you have to claim.

If you have a good broker on your side to fight your corner and have provided ALL health information on application, there should be no worries in getting a successful claim.

So many times people say insurers don’t pay out. When you dig deeper, you find out that people neglect to disclose all that they should.

I had a policy for a short while . Made no claims however because I had a mini stroke 15 years ago they simply would not cover anything connected to it ....ever !

Whereas another company after 2 years waiting period covered all

It's a shame that the Western world had to F### everything up for us to realize how amazing Thailand is, now we have to pay our dues as retirees to stay in an amazing country , it's worth it, but sometimes it's a headache having to do many steps to stay somewhere, and as you get to be my age and older it becomes more complicated to check in every 90 days to make sure you keep a certain balance in your bank, to avoid the scams, pay for medical insurance, go to immigration and other Thai offices for letters, documentation, changing extension of stays, applying for a Thai ID, getting a house book if you're married to a Thai citizen, if you're not putting your home in your business name because that's your only option, unless you own a condo and even that can be a challenge. I understand the whole process but it can be taxing on one's system and if you miss one item they could ask you to leave, I've seen this happen before to people it's not usually an issue but you have to come back to the country and start all over again, if you already have a bank account in Thailand that's a plus, but in some cases if they see a pattern of you leaving the country multiple times going back to your country origin they can freeze or cancel your bank account I've seen this happen also and like I said as you get older sometimes you don't want to do as many things , this is just my opinion but we all know how messed up the Western world is so I think in around about way it's worth it going through all the steps.

Many people can self insure since as foreigners we don’t have as many protections but we do often need it for our visas. In other words look into a major medical policy if it’s just for concern about a serious health issue bankrupting you…for me I keep a great insurance in my home country and another here I only use for visas and pay out of pocket the rest.

It's a lottery both with health and insurance. The fees are rising with your age and if you you are unlucky they don't even cover your health issues. One part of ageing is to be worried. Staying alone makes it worse.

Yes - and never again.... Had a yearly international policy with them three years in a row. In the third year, made a claim with them - denied and denied through their appeal process. Honestly - it was a traumatic injury in the first place, it happened in Cambodia, they directed me to attend Bangkok Hospital in the capital. I followed all their instructions, no alcohol/drugs, prior injury or vehicle accident involved. It was a pretty cut n dry case - so I was very pissed... They make you feel like shit and if you do everything they ask, and get all the documents you require at the time - it's almost impossible to then supply what they ask for to win the case through the last appeal process - I gave up with them in the end and wrote it off for my own sanity.... Now with Safetywings (nomad policy) and can't rate them high enough - super easy claims process. Yes the policy costs more, but I know that if the shit hits the fan again, I won't be left high and dry... And that is priceless 💝

Good question this is exactly the kind of thing people only think about after they need to claim.

When I was looking into similar options, a quick chat with Richard Yates (experienced independent International Medical Insurance Broker) at ''Health Cover Now'' helped compare Pacific Cross with a few alternatives side-by-side, which made it much clearer what you’re actually getting.

only insurance I use is cash and a non O. I am seventy, and only a fool would insure all the preconditions I have. In one year II spent 200,000b of my own money for ICU and later... a procedure to facilitate my "flow". That was 100,000 each time in a government hospital. I don't think any insurance in Thailand would pay out for my conditions. If they did, I still would need a private room and followup care....at my own costs. Private room 2500 per day. My followups and medications total 3000 baht a month...probably forever. Hopefully, no more emergencies. Government hospitals have decent medical care....you just have longer waits and the facilities are not as pretty.

Well... You don't really know until you have to use it. I've had two claims. One back in 2020 when I contracted measles. No problem whatsoever. The second encounter was after a RTA two years ago. Absolutely no problem with payment BUT....They tried to increase the premium. WTF it was an accident and not even my fault!! We eventually settled on loosing my 20% no claims. Bottom line is ALWAYS challenge

I am with Pacific Cross. When I looked into them a number of years ago now. They have a reputation of paying up their obligations however if you have any preexisting conditions they will exclude them and they are very strict about it.

However it seems to be the way health insurance companies operate in Thailand so I don't know if they are any worse or better than others.

If you are getting health insurance for OA retirement visa reasons then you are stuck with a list of Thai Health Insurance Companies produced by Thai Immigration and Pacific Cross is on that list.
Richard ********
Richard ********
John Reilly can you get or use an International Insurance to get your OA or any retirement visas?
John ********
John ********
Richard Ramsey For any visa except OA retirement visa there is no health insurance requirement. Though this will probably change at least if you listen to the news reports. For OA retirement visa you must insure with a Thai Health Insurance Company. Thai Immigration lists the companies that they will recognize on their website. They do not recognize any other Insurance Company. You need to insure for at least 3 000 000 baht. I have read that this has been increased to 4 000 000 baht this year but I need to confirm this with my local Thai Immigration Office.

What people do if they have an Insurance Company that they want to keep using like their home country insurance companies is to keep them and to insure with one of the Thai recognized companies but to insure with the highest possible deductible level and just accept that the premium is dead money.

John Reilly Pacific Cross now have a policy that after 2 years, covers pre-existing conditions. Acceptance is on on a case by case basis of course.
John ********
John ********
Nick Woods Is this a new policy ie since July 2025. If so I will be very interested when I renew this year. I do know that they would not cover prostate issues for 2 years after initial acceptance. But this was an age related issue. But other than that it hasn't changed since initial acceptance and I have been with them 7 years with no claims.

this was just an example and standard premium , with pre existing add a loading 10-40% and premiums increase every year due to medical inflation and then more increases with age gaps

@Natalie **********
as a rule , there are no companies that accept pre existing conditions. Depending on what it is , likely scenario insurance will also load premium and exclude not only pre existing but also anything that could be related. Saying that , there are some companies that do accept pre existing ( not all but some ) however this policies are already most expensive on the market. Then they will also load premium an additional 10% -40% with condition that if no claim made on pre existing after 3 years , they will reduce the loading by X% and if still no problems after 5 years they will completely remove the loading . To give you a rough idea, this is only an example , a policy with AXA will cost 36 000 per year (standard premium $ policy with a company as I mentioned that would cover pre existing standard premium 130 000 a year
Natalie ***********
Natalie ***********

Only that I had to pay 7000 baht for an exam, only to get denied for too many pre-existing conditions. Probably good if you're young and healthy, but why have coverage for everything but what you need. AIA covers me for major conditions, and I self insure everything else. I only had to do a blood pressure exam. It also costs more, but supposedly I'm safe from being stuck in a hospital with no way to pay. It's all a crap shoot in my opinion.
