TLDR : Answer Summary
A 72-year-old expat is seeking advice on obtaining a long-term Thai visa, specifically a 90-day visa, as well as information about health insurance requirements. A response suggests applying for a tourist visa that allows an initial 60-day stay with an option to extend for an additional 30 days for a fee. It also highlights the necessity of having health insurance that covers COVID-related medical expenses.
Suggest you get a tourist visa which will allow you to stay 60.days on entry plus added 30.days extension from Thai immigration for 1900 Thai baht = 90 days in Thailand.
You will need health insurance which includes US $100,000 coverage for COVID medical care for the three months.
Lucky for you the insurance is still affordable at age 72.
After the three months then look at options available to stay longer in Thailand.
It's too early now to know what options you may have in early 2022.
"After the three months then look at options available to stay longer in Thailand." . . . . I'd rather advise him to start looking for options BEFORE the three months are over. . . .๐๐ . .if he starts the inquiries AFTER 3 months, he will be in overstay
