TLDR : Answer Summary
To translate your Norwegian driving license in Pattaya, it's essential to note that a direct translation may not be necessary to obtain a Thai driving license. Many expats suggest visiting F.S Consulting Co. Agency, which assists with acquiring both a Thai driving license and the necessary translations. Additionally, some individuals reported successfully obtaining their Thai license with just their Norwegian license, a residency paper, and a medical certificate, without needing to use an agent. However, an International Driving Permit (IDP) is also recommended for legal driving in Thailand for the first three months.

Previously we could get a notary confirmation of your driving licenses from the Norwegian embassy. They don’t offer this service anymore and we are required to have an IDP as well to covert our licenses into thai license. An IDP is also required for driving legally in Thailand for up to three months.

I have norwegian license and just got the Thai, super easy task and no need to pay anyone. Get your residens papper from immigration or the norwegian consulate and just do a drop in at the driver license office. You'll have the license in your hand in a couple of hours, bring your passport, driver license and take copys of everything there. Cost me 105 baht for the license and only did sight, colour and brake test
Seems a bit strange, I also have a Norwegian driver license but needed to have a IDP as well. The fee for both licenses at the DLT is around 700 baht for both licenses (standard), + residence certificate, statement from a doctor and copies. Previously we could get our licenses verified by our embassy, but they stopped providing this service several years ago. I know several Norwegian people residence in Thailand need to mail their licenses home to family/friends in Norway and get them to return it together with an IDP as well.

Well i just got it 2 weeks ago, so go figure 😉. And that was the price i paid and paperwork they asked for. They have copy service at the DLT
Where was this? And you only had your Norwegian license? Was this both car and motorcycle? I’ve had both licenses in Thailand for 10 years and I need to renew every second year as I’m not on a Non O visa.

I did copy my norwegian license by the way at the dlt even if they didn't ask for that.
Ok, thank you for sharing. I guess you’ve then been quite lucky regarding this. I just have car in Norway but didn’t bring or get my IDP for this. So I ended up taking both licenses from scratch the thai way. Two theoretical test with 50 questions and 45 correct answers. Driving test for both in a track at the DPL, simple test regarding sight and reaction. Health and residence certificate. 700 baht fee for both. In Buriram, just me an a US guy among all the Thais. Since then I’ve renewed both four times, just residence and health certificate and this simple test regarding sight and reaction.
I was expecting that to, but from experience here normally the actual process is usually different from place to place and who you meet on the offices. So most of the times it's better to wing it and just go there and stand in line and do what they ask, pretty much everything always had a solution on place for me. There's a million opinions and people that want to sell you solutions online, my advice is to always just go directly to the source and comply to what they ask from u.
yes only the norwegian license, got both in Thai. No driving test or anything, not a single farang there. Just went in, got in line, only copied what they asked me to and had the license in my hand in like 2-3 hour.

A norwegian driving license only is not valid in Thailand. You need an international driving license in combination with your norwegian one. You can drive with it in Thailand only 3 months. After 3 months you must have a Thai driving license. Driving without a valid driving license is driving without any insurances.
