Hi when applying for a non immigrant O visa in one's own country. What's is exceptable for accommodation and for how long? I will more than likely, will be staying with a friend, and I believe a letter of invitation is needed. I am just interested in what people have done for a successful application?

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a NON-O visa from your home country, acceptable accommodation documentation typically includes a letter of invitation from a friend, especially if you plan to stay with them. Alternatively, a hotel booking for a few days upon arrival may suffice. However, it's important to verify the specific requirements listed on the website of the consulate where you will apply, as these can vary.

No, just a hand written letter from my Thai friend, stating that I would be staying at their family home for my duration of visa and a scan copy of the letter composers Thai ID Card. Hope this helps.
My friend hand wrote the letter, dated it, signed it, then scanned it along with his ID Card and emailed them to me and I downloaded them and attached them along with other requirements on the Thai Embassies e-visa online application portal.
Every Thai consulate has different requirements. You should check the website of the consulate you'll be applying through and see what their requirements say. Most of the time they just want the first place you'll be staying after you arrive, so a few days hotel booking or an invitation letter should suffice. But it'll be based on your consulate requirements.
