Do I Still Need to Prove My Bank Balance for a Retirement Visa After 90 Days?

I received my extension of stay based on retirement yesterday at Jomtien Immigration. When I picked up my passport there was no mention of going back in 90 days to prove I still had the 800,000 in the bank. Does anyone know if this has now been dropped ?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster received a retirement extension without being informed to return in 90 days to prove a bank balance of 800,000 THB. The community discussions included varied experiences with Jomtien Immigration; some were required to provide proof of funds after 90 days, while others weren't given any paperwork requesting such. It is suggested that the poster directly contact Jomtien Immigration to clarify whether they need to return with an updated bank book to avoid potential penalties.

NOW with that being said, AND knowing that Jomtien IS (or was) one of the offices that were giving that "come back in 3 months receipt" I would suggest the O/P swing by the immigration office and ASK someone if they need to come back in 3 months or not because they didn't get a receipt saying to.

That is the only way you'll know whether they stopped doing it OR they just didn't give you the receipt.

Good Luck

STOP with the show a bank book after you get a retirement extension on you next 90 day report nonsense

ONE MORE TIME, a 90 day report and showing an updated bank book three months after you get your extension to show that you are following the requirements have NOTHING to do with one another.

IF when you got your extension you were handed a paper stating you need to come back in 3 months with an updated bank book you do. IF you were NOT handed a paper stating you need to come back in 3 months with an up dated bank book you don't.

That was at Lampang not predictive text keeping.

I did my first 90 day report at Keeping recently and although I had my updated bank book it was not required. I guess they know if you offer it it will be kosher.

There were ONLY a few offices that were having people come back after three months and show an updated bank book. MOST were having you sign the paper that you understood the new seasoning terms and will look at your bank book balances when you apply for your extension NEXT year to see if you followed the seasoning rules or not.

Okay, Jomtien WAS handing out papers like this when you got your yearly extension based on banked money stating you needed to come back in three months (NOT on your next 90 day report) and show an updated bank book
Tod *********
that has NOTHING to do with your 90 day reporting because 90 day reporting and yearly extensions having nothing to do with one another.

And as the OP is asking this question here and on other message boards too...

Good Luck.

Hope you find the ANSWER YOU ARE LOOKING FOR.

And beware of the consequences if you do not comply with Jomtien Immigration requirements.

Do yourself a huge favor...

Ask Jomtien Immigration

and DO NOT SPEND ANY OF THE 800,000 Thai baht until you do.

And as you have replied on another forum...

"No worries I have no intention of going below the specified amounts that would be reckless."

Wise decision...IMHO

@James *******
thank you. I am not sure what you mean when you say I have been asking here and in other message boards though. I only asked here.

There is, or at least was a sign up in that office regarding going back with your updated bank book, 90 days after receiving your extension. I wouldn't totally rely on getting or not a piece of paper. Jomtien Immigration, do like too throw a curveball on occasions.

@Ron ******
wise advice.

To be clear: a report that you are psychically 90 days in Thailands has nothing to do with the financial requirements of the Extension of Stay.

The statement that you need to bring bank books on your 90 day reports is not correct.

Pattaya and some other Immigration Officers did ask to some people to come back 90 days after the Extension of Stay is inked in their passport to show the bank book and the balance of minimum 800.000 Thb.

During these 90 days you can even travel to other countries, but you need to visit, 90 days after you got this stamp in your passport, the Immigration office again IF ASKED.

Not everyone is asked to return

Had a friend pick his up yesterday at Jomtien and when he turned in the paperwork the day before they had him sign some forms and handed him a copy and he said there was some red writing in the left hand column that said he needed to bring in his bank book updated the same day when he does his first 90 day report

The IO said nothing he noticed it when he read it later
Tod *********
That paper does NOT say to bring your updated bank book when you do your next 90 day report :O because the 90 day reporting has NOTHING to do with extensions, in fact it's possible to get an yearly extension and then NEVER EVER do a 90 day report because you travel.

@Tom ********
and that is what is being reported as the requirement from Jomtien Immigration. Thank you for sharing ๐Ÿ˜‰
Ian ******
I believe it will show on your next application for extension in bank book .
James ********
@Ian *****
Jomtien has required a bankbook balance verification at 90 days AFTER EXTENSION OF STAY GRANTED.

Be sure to ask if that is still required.
James ********
Be very careful. I would suggest you visit Jomtien Immigration and ask if they still want to see the bank balance at the first 90 days report.

I have seen no change in their requirement to show the bank balance at end of first 90 days.

And never allow the balance to drop below 400,000 Thai baht during the months required per your extension.

Seems that the Immigration Officer trusted you enough to keep the part of the deal without regular checks.
