Has anyone been asked to show proof of 800k in a Thai bank after renewing their O or OA visa?

Hi. Just a curious question and it's not that I'm going to do it, but:

Has anyone ever been asked to show that they still have the 800k in their bank, after they have renewed their O or OA visa, within the first 3 months. .

It's not a provision on your first 90 day report and I've never heard anyone ever having to show it.

Cheers. 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around whether expats have been asked to provide proof of maintaining the 800,000 baht requirement in their Thai bank account shortly after renewing their O or OA visa. While it's generally not required during the first 90-day report, some users note that certain immigration offices may request this information within three months, particularly in areas like Jomtien. Others highlight that they have been consistently asked for the last 12 months of bank statements when renewing their visas. The consensus suggests that while it may not be common practice everywhere, certain locations do enforce stricter compliance, especially regarding the required bank balances during the extension process.

Not that you would do it, but if you violate any terms of your visa/extension you could be considered to be on overstay from that point onwards

How about when your Non A-O and Non O visa (800 & 400k) is in your bank in your home country at time of applying, so do you have to show in our case UK bank statements when extending after a year ?

@Christopher ******
After first year of OA, you border bounce and get stamped for another year. No need to show finances. That comes at the end of year 2

@Steve *******
yes you are correct but the OP didn’t mention anything about how long the OA visa lasts, he only asked can he use funds from his overseas bank account at extension time, to which the answer is no.
Christ *******
@Steve *******
is that still classed as an extension?

@Christopher ******
nope, it's not an extension, it's just an ENTRY on a valid multi-entry visa. Totally different than the extension

You can get almost 2 years of stay out of a visa that is valid for a year IF you exit/re-enter just before your visa expires. (that's because an OA visa gets you stamped in for up to a year)

@Christopher ******
your yearly extension will be done in Thailand, it clearly states you must show the 800,000 Thai baht in your name in your Thai bank account.

I never knew that was the case with a Non A-O as it’s an extension of exiting visa with proof of funds in home country bank account, so different rules after first 12 months

@Christopher ******
when get an yearly extension of either the Non O-A based on retirement or the Non O based on retirement you must shown the 800,000 Thai baht in your Thai bank account or 65,000 baht each month coming from overseas into your Thai account. You cannot use money in a overseas account to gain a yearly extension in Thailand.

ok great, thanks for explaining it to me.

My wife will be on the non A-O retirement and I’ll be on the Non O as her dependent, as I’m only 47, so on extension it’s either 800,000 baht for her and 400,000 baht for me, or 65,000 baht each per month, would the 800,000 baht need to be in the Thai bank 2 months prior to extension, therefore on month 10 of initial visa? sorry for all the questions
Rob **********
@Christopher ******
the 800,000 baht must be in your account 2 months prior to the extension and remain there for 3 months after the extension, and the account cannot drop below 400,000 baht at anytime throughout the year.

@Christopher ******
stop, there is no financial requirement for you on a trailing spouse visa/exgtension AND your wife would not need to get an extension for almost TWO years IF she used the Non-OA visa correctly

By that I mean bouncing out and back just before the year visa expires to get a new yearly ENTRY stamp. <- DO NOT confuse an entry stamp that you get when you enter the country on a valid visa with an extension of stay that you get from the immigration office. They are two totally different things

Yes very common for 30 days after getting a 1 year of extension of stay based on marriage, and 3 months after based on Retirement.
Danny *******
They have always asked for the last 12 months of transactions/balances for us when renewing each year.
Tod *********
@Danny ******
yep, MOST offices have you bring a 12 month detail transaction print out so they can check that you kept the funds in the account the 3 months after your extension was granted and then that the balance never went below 400K baht the rest of the year until it went back up to 800K two months before your extension application

@Danny ******
cheers. On Samui it's only 3 months statement to renew.

@Dickie *******
wasn’t it your very first extension just after first non-o visa for 90 days?

@Dickie *******
Which 3 months?

That’s nice. 👍

it's NOTHING to do with the 90 day reporting,. It's a clearly written part of the banked money seasoning requirements 800K baht in a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months before and 3 months after the extension is issued.

MANY people (mostly from Jomtien) get the paper like robert posted stating they need to update their bank book and come back on xxx date (3 months after) to show they still meet the seasoning requirements.

There are only a few offices that do this, and indeed most offices have you bring a year print out of the detail transaction report NEXT year and will check that you met the requirement that way. BUT a few (as I said Jomtien notably) do make you do it

Hmm, either they changed their policy down there in Jomtien OR you got your Non-O visa/extension via "alternate means" 😮 the dates are wrong.

You apply for the Non-O visa, it goes under consideration for 14 days and you go back to get the Non-O and new 90 day stamp inked in. THEN you wait until you have 30 days or less left on that stamp to go apply for the year extension.

If you look at the issue date of the Non-O May 3 AND the validity of it July 31st the SOONEST you could have applied for a year extension there on your own would have been July 1st (30 days left on your 90 day Non-O) yet you had that year extension issued May 11th only EIGHT days after you got the Non-O inked in.

You sure you "pushed your own paper" on this process, or did you use some 'service' to get it done?

The date stamps I put arrows beside are the ones that lead me to believe you didn't get this on your own (although I could be wrong)

Yep, your forensic work is formidable! I used a visa service... 👍

here are some images of what they give you at the different places that do it

@Tod ********
ok thanks. Must be different on Samui because you only have to show your past 3 months when renewing and not 1 year and not again during the year.

@Dickie *******
AND NEVER allow the balance in the account to go below 400,000 Thai baht.

AND it's known that immigration office Colonels/ Chiefs do change...so what may be possible this year might not be at NEXT renewal.
