Sooooo..... hearing about pending blanket visa extensions and I have to go to immigration tomorrow (ED visa). Should I just not go and hope the visa extension bill goes through, or go give immigration my 1900 baht plus pay the 800 baht I'll have in taxi fees to get out there?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is uncertain about whether to attend their immigration appointment to extend their ED visa or to wait for a proposed blanket visa extension to be passed. Several comments suggest it may be safer to go, as the possibility of being in overstay could complicate matters, particularly with new regulations under COVID-19 that may not cover overstays. Some comments also emphasize the importance of having all documents in order and being prepared for lengthy waits at immigration.

Seeing as you are on a long term extension (based on education) you still go get your extensions like normal (just like people who are working here, married to thais, retired, raising kids, etc) all do.

The PM has signed a Nothing Law that will help maybe 20% of those adversely affected

it would be nice to see all countries just say, hey everyone just stay where you are right now, no problem.

Just finished up at Chaeng Wattana and it is pretty much business as usual here for ED visas. Got here at 10:15am and it’s about 3:30pm now. Just waiting for my passport back.
David **********
I have to go also but Ao Nang is in lock down and we have checkpoints that you need permission to get through. Immigration law is now conflicting with quarantine law. One says I have to go and one says I have to stay.

I'm not sure, but I think they allow travel to hospitals and the immigration.

You'll most likely have your passport with you. Just show them.

I’m number two hundred and forty something in the “have Embassy letter” priority queue. I hear there is going to be one Thai Immigration officer there. I’m going, but do the math. Pretty sure a lot of people are going to come away disappointed.

I’m doing an ED visa extension not an emergency extension. Hopefully things will be as usual for that section.

how do you know what number in queue you are? what IO is this?

my visa-exemption runs out on april 11. so I have to go April 10. here's REALLY hoping it passes in the next two days

@Olivia *******
well just wait till 11th....but as i saw somewhere else...better to not be on overstay as then it gets far more complicated...
Olivia ********
i thought youre guaranteed 30 if its the first time you extend?
Stephen *********
mine was to expire on the 12th and went today(7th) no issues. seems though that they are only giving 20 days then go back to see what you get after that. I now have til May 1st

Make sure you have all of you your docs in duplicate. Each one signed with phone number in blue ink. Do not copy the signed form. Sign the copied forms.

I did this today and messed up so this is why I say make sure you have all your ducks in a row.
Stephen *********
Only yours as far as I know. I did mine as second extension on visa exempt as per Covid with letter from my embassy.

Thanks
Stephen *********
no, if your originals are signed and have your phone# on them just sign again and rewrite ur # on the copies again in blue ink. simple easy fix. This is not for the signature part of the docs; just at the bottom of each document.

@Stephen ********
fuck.

I every document in order. But I signed my forms and then copied them..

Do you have to go back again?

And pay again?
Stephen *********
Just go to be safe. 800 in taxi fees seems a bit high unless you’re getting a happy ending.

honestly the taxi fees hurt me worse than the application fee lol. I try to take the BTS to save a little money if I can, but it hurts either way.

there is devil in the detail - which basically says if you are legal - so yeah, if you may be going onto overtay tomorrow, probably not a good idea

Same shit thought. The next thing u know, owh....its now automated right after we renewed.

Yeah figures it will get approved like literally the day of or day after I have to renew. 🙄 Oh well, its a good thing overall and about time. Hopefully things will calm down soon.

I have a feeling that if the regulation does pass, it will not apply to those on overstay. I could be wrong, but it's definitely possible. I wouldn't recommend risking being in overstay and plan to go get the extension tomorrow.
Niamh *********
I think it’s unwise to get an overstay presently- I’d go if I were u

Kind of what I was thinking as well.
