TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around whether to attempt a visa extension immediately or wait. Several comments suggest waiting until next week due to expected busyness at immigration offices. It is highlighted that extensions typically start on the application date rather than extending the current expiration date, emphasizing that an immediate application might result in lost days. One commenter shares their successful experience in applying for an extension just days prior and advises on required documentation.

We have the same stamp as yours with expire date on Dec. 30 (covid extension previously), and went to Chiang Mai Immigration (near airport) to apply for another covid extension on Dec. 4 and got extended up to Feb 28, 2021; (better arrived early in the morning before 9 a.m. so there are few people, need to bring 1 photo and copy every page of passport). This week maybe the Immigration Office is busy, suggest you go there next week. Good luck

I didn't have any embassy letter, only fill up application form for extension, and signed another 3 forms given by the immigration (for covid extension, and awareness of not to overstay papers), just have to attach 1 photo, and provide signed copies every page of the passport, then paid 1900 at counter 7 in Chiang Mai Immigration Office (airport), waited a few minutes then got the stamp up to Feb 28, 2021, not "under consideration" stamp. FYI. Good luck to you all.

You do not have the same extension of stay as the OP; you have a 60 day extension of stay based on visiting Thai family, the OP has an 60 day extension of stay based on COVID-19.

It's neither good or bad, but the advice that applies to you may not apply to the OP.

Remember at most offices the new extension starts the date you APPLY for it :O

It's not added on to the expiration date you have now.

Going now would mean you'd lose 22 days off this extension.

Does anyone know if Chiang Mai will give 60 days this time? When I went in November they would only give 35 days.

Does it means that after January such extension will not be granted?

Ok thank you. It’s a bit nerve wracking going in the day before when they could say “sorry” and you’d have to leave the country the next day. It is what it is

With what I currently have, is it pretty much a guarantee that I’ll get another extension?

the police order governing '60 day unable to travel due to covid" extensions says people can apply for them up to Jan 29th. So I don't see any reason you couldn't apply for one closer to when your current stamp runs out
