Should I apply for my Thai visa from the Rome embassy instead of Berlin while I’m currently in Italy?

A little brainstorming here:

I’m an Italian citizen with an Italian passport but currently a resident in Berlin, Germany.

At the moment, I’m in Italy and will be flying to Thailand from Rome in 26 days.

Since I have a feeling that the Thai Embassy in Berlin might take longer to process my visa submission, would it be better to select Italy (Rome Embassy) in the second field instead? I noticed someone here mentioned they received approval in just one week from the Rome Embassy.

Honestly, I feel like this is one of those moments when you’re at the supermarket trying to pick the fastest line…and I always pick the wrong one! 😄 So I could really use your advice, or if anyone can share their experience with the Berlin Embassy.

Thank you 🌻

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around an Italian citizen currently in Italy seeking advice on whether to apply for a Thai visa from the Rome Embassy or the Berlin Embassy. Given concerns about processing times, the consensus indicates that one must apply at the embassy corresponding to their current location. Users provide insights on the need to prove current residency and address, especially when staying with family or friends, and share experiences about the slow processing times in Berlin.

Got it, that makes sense now!

So, in the second slide, I’ll list my permanent address in Germany and my current address in Italy. But how do I prove my current address? As Lulu also mentioned, I’m staying at my parents’ place in Italy..how do I provide proof of that?

Thanks so much for all the help! I’m actually glad I didn’t apply from Germany, especially since my trip to Italy was already planned.

I see that many people had a smooth application process..but it can easily be complicated like in my case.

I applied in Berlin on Dec 4 and haven't gotten past "document check" yet, so yes, Berlin is taking a long time.

when is your intended day arrival? I read here in the group that they processing them based on that. In my case I applied 7nd of November (also in Berlin) and for almost two weeks nothing happened, they asked for additional documents on the 19th and the visa was approved on the 24th.

I just found that Munich says:

Ihr Visaantrag wird innerhalb von 15 Konsulatstagen des Königlich Thailändischen Generalkonsulats bearbeitet (Montag bis Freiteg sind 5 Tage, an Wochenenden und konsularischen Feiertage arbeiten wir nicht).

Der Visumantrag wird nur in der Reihenfolge des Eingangs bearbeitet.

Bitte planen Sie Ihre Einreichung frühzeitig.

So it does depend on when you are applying, not when you're flying.

- I got the request for additional documents today, maybe it'll still help you, they wanted scanned versions of the passport and place of residence, not photos! Also a tax return in my case...

Good luck!!!

I know, I applied for the 60-day visa earlier this year in Berlin, and it took a few weeks to process. But based on Cihan's experience, I’m sure you’ll get yours soon! I’m also a bit concerned about the holiday delays, but for me is worst since I’m applying tomorrow cause I’m still waiting on one document. My flight is mid January, so fingers crossed for both of us!

@Ci***
, ahhh, that might explain it. My flight isn't until the middle of January, but I still need to get the spouse DTV, so I'm getting nervous. But: busiest time of the year and lots of holidays ...

You can’t pick. , you must use the country you are physically in, you will also have to prove it and remain there until you get the visa
Lulu ****
But what if you stay in the new country at your friend's house. How would you show them a prove for your current location? Like the adresse. Cause people they go to other countries to apply for visa. if you're in a hotel I do understand. But not at your friends house

So how do I show them such prove ?

if you are in a county where you are not a national or resident (like in Marikas case), then you can provide a picture of your passport page with the entry stamp to the country you are in.

You pick the location where you are physically present. It isn’t an option. If you are in Italy, you select Italy, if you are in Germany, you select Germany. You are then supposed to stay within that jurisdiction until the visa is approved.

I’m not sure about the last part. I don’t think you need to stay where you apply until the visa is approved. For example, if someone applies for a Thai visa in Malaysia but travels to Singapore or Thailand while waiting, it shouldn’t matter. The location selection likely just determines which embassy processes the application. You must be there to submit it, but staying until approval seems unclear.

@Daniel *******
There have been cases where embassies have asked for additional information, such as photos of each page in your passport. This has been done to check if you are still in their jurisdiction. Here is an example of the Thai consulate in Netherlands saying you have to stay put. One can assume if they only have the “authority” when you are in the Netherlands, that every other Thai embassy would only have the same “authority”.
