Is it true that when applying for DTV as a Brit you only need to have had the 500k+ THB in your account for 1 month? And also to confirm I MUST 100% apply from my home country now, not a border run etc?
Thanks
Answer summary
The inquiry focuses on whether British citizens applying for a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) only need to show 500,000 THB in their bank account for one month and if they must apply from their home country instead of via a border run. The discussion includes suggestions to verify information with the Thai consulate due to ongoing uncertainties about the validity of golf programs as soft power activities, which may be included in the DTV category.

Your lucky if any embassy approve this as softpower
Kurt J Oldervik Totally agree! The person in charge of the golf program said they confirmed with the Thai consulate in Fukuoka, Japan and were told it was okay, but I'm thinking of reaching out to the consulate myself to double-check...
Soft power is not restricted to Muay Thai and cooking classes. I've seen a successful applicant for an ecology course, and the DDG of the MFA mentions music festivals.
Ian Morrison I only knew about the famous Muay Thai and Thai cuisine. I’m interested in the ecology course and music festivals, so I’ll look into them. Thanks!
Naoko Yasuda right! Like others, i have never seen a golf programme mentioned here as a possibility. I would ask them if they have any approvals. And where those approvals occurred. Your only option now is your home country. You could also try reaching out to the consulate you will use
The DTV has been around for over 2 years and I haven't seen anything about golf as a soft power option. Muay Thai and Thai cooking classes are acceptable.
David E Moore Thank you for your comment. I'm Japanese myself, and the person in charge of this golf program is also Japanese — he told me he confirmed directly with the Thai consulate in Fukuoka, Japan, and were told it was okay. That said, I haven't actually seen anyone who's obtained the visa this way, so I'm still hesitant.
I personally have never heard of this company, nor have I ever heard of golf qualify as a soft power activity. How does golf spread Thai soft power? It's not unique to Thailand in any way. This website was created 4 months ago.
Also, online classes never qualify for visas. You get a visa so you can attend classes in person. If you wanted to take online lessons, you can do that from your home country.
Thank you for taking the time to look at the site as well. What concerns me is exactly the same point you raised — the "online classes are okay" part. When I asked the company about it, their answer was that "the visa requirements don't actually state that online classes are not allowed."
it also doesn't say they ARE allowed. So that's a risky grey area. It's very clear with the ED visa that the visa is for taking classes in person. I don't really see how the DTV could be different in that aspect.
That makes sense, and I think you're right — it really is a grey area, and this program seems to be taking advantage of that while it's still possible. Even if it works now, there's no telling what happens at re-entry or renewal down the line. I'll check with the consulate first before deciding.Thank you so much.
theres been a few people approved for golf dtvs in some other groups its actually legit. Not sure about this exact golf school but the golf dtv is for sure a real thing
Seb Gerault Hi Seb, thanks for your comment! You mentioned seeing people approved for golf soft-power DTVs in other groups — would you mind sharing which group(s) that was, if you don't mind? I'd love to try to find their post and see the actual details of their application.
